Scottish media praise Tyler Fletcher after his first team debut vs Curacao, 'Pizzazz...'

Tyler Fletcher has continued his special end to the season with a debut for the senior Scotland national team.

Hampden Park saw a new Scottish star emerge on Saturday as Tyler Fletcher came off the bench for Steve Clarke’s side at half-time to make his debut.

Fletcher had been called up for a training camp, but has now made his senior national team bow while wearing the number four.

This follows Fletcher’s first U21 call-up in March, highlighting how highly regarded he is by the Scottish FA.

His debut performance proved this faith absolutely spot on.

Tyler Fletcher impresses for Scotland on his debut

What an opportunity it was for Fletcher to come off the bench against Curacao in a World Cup warm-up, and he took his chance.

Up against fellow United academy graduate Tahith Chong, Fletcher put in a really respectable performance, earning praise from the national press in Scotland.

The Scotsman rated Fletcher’s debut highly with a 7/10 rating and plenty of praise.

“Brought some pizzazz to Scotland’s midfield after his half-time introduction, although it must be noted that Curacao were a man light. Booked for a poor tackle but a promising debut.”

Scotland boss Clarke explained his decision to debut Fletcher while speaking to the Daily Record.

“It’s a great game for young Findlay to go on, and young Tyler to go on at half-time. OK, against 10 men, we’ve got an extra man, and we’re going to dominate possession. But maybe it’s a little glimpse into why I’ve signed a four-year contract. We have talent coming through.”

This national team delight comes after Fletcher impressed for United during his appearance at Brighton last weekend.

It also follows Fletcher being crowned United’s U21 player of the year, setting him up for a big 2026/27.

Next season could be a big one for Fletcher for club and country.

Everything Tyler Fletcher did during his Scotland debut vs Curacao

Fletcher played the entire second half, and he got himself booked as he threw himself about into tackles, showing Scotland’s staff what he is all about.

Playing in a deep-lying midfield role, Fletcher completed 33 of his 38 pass attempts, including 2/3 long balls as he flexed his strong passing range.

Fletcher had 42 touches of the ball and little to do in terms of defending.

He made two defensive contributions and won all of his tackles. Along with this, he made three recoveries and won one of four duels.

A very strong first showing from Fletcher, sure to have earned him further chances.
