Michael Carrick will already be planning how to tackle his first full season at Manchester United.
Last week, Manchester United officially appointed Michael Carrick as the permanent head coach for the 2026/27 campaign.
This announcement not only confirmed Carrick but also means Carrick’s coaching staff got new deals as well, all expiring in 2028.
Now, former England coach Allan Russell has explained why Carrick is so lucky to have one of these coaches in particular with him.

In an article all about Steve Holland, Allan Russell has now explained how good his former colleague is and why United should feel lucky to have him.
The former England coach told the Manchester Evening News how good Holland is.
“He has an aura about him; he is a genius. The way I work and coach now, 75% of it is because of Steve Holland”, Russell explained.
“The way he works to prepare sessions, to deliver sessions, to debrief sessions. The way he communicates with staff and communicates with players.
“Michael Carrick is so lucky, and he chose so wisely with Steve.”
Holland has been an important part of Carrick’s success, helping mould the way United play off the ball, which led to huge defensive improvements and more clean sheets.
One certain thing, United wouldn’t have been as convinced about appointing Carrick if Holland wasn’t also staying.

There were doubts about Carrick, but complementing him with Holland has seen these problems disappear.
Holland has been hailed by Wayne Rooney in his time at United, with the club legend saying it was a good appointment.
For some, Holland has transformed Carrick’s United, with the pair working so well together as Carrick’s smarts in possession are complemented by Holland’s defensive structure.
It is a dream team that is sure to teach Carrick a lot over the next few years, with the United legend learning and improving every week, given he is still a very young head coach.
Carrick might not be the finished article yet, but having excellent assistants will help him get there quicker.
