Manchester United Women manager Marc Skinner has tipped one of his players to follow in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham by becoming a club legend.
Marc Skinner has been at the helm of the Manchester United Women since 2021 after he replaced former Red Devils boss Casey Stoney as head coach.
Manchester United Women enjoyed an impressive campaign last season under Skinner, who led his side to second in the Women’s Super League (WSL).
However, Skinner’s women are currently fourth in the WSL after 18 matches played, with the Red Devils 15 points adrift from league leaders Manchester City.
The United Women head coach has talented players in his first-team squad, including Red Devils No 1 Mary Earps and club captain Katie Zelem.
However, Skinner is convinced that one player in the United Women squad is on the path to becoming a club legend at Old Trafford.
Skinner praises Man Utd Women star
Manchester United Women were in action on Sunday and the Red Devils Women sealed a thumping 4-1 win over Everton Women at the Leigh Sports Village.
Ella Toone played a starring role in the WSL clash and the United and England Women star scored a stunning second-half brace in five minutes.
The 24-year-old United Women star has taken her goalscoring tally for the club to 51 after her impact in the comeback win against Everton Women.
Toone, who wears the No 7 shirt for United Women, has now been tipped to follow in the footsteps of legendary United No 7s Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham.
“What people don’t see about Ella Toone, especially over the last 10 weeks, is she has been working on her finishing every day and always wants to do a bit more,” Marc Skinner said, as per BBC Sport.
“Right now, she is in a fantastic head space. That’s 50 and 51 goals for the club and she is the first player to achieve that.
“There aren’t many people that will score 50-51 for this club and that shows [how] special she is. I hope she goes on to get hundreds, she can be a legend for this club.”
Toone on her Man Utd Women feat
Toone, who was part of the United youth academy, has had an impressive career at the Red Devils since she left crosstown rivals Manchester City in 2018.
The United Women star played a starring role for England Women at Euro 2022 and scored in the final against Germany Women at Wembley.
Toone is United Women’s all-time top scorer and leading appearance maker, with the Lionesses international thrilled with her performance against Everton Women.
“It’s a really special day for me,” she said.
“It’s so nice to score for your club but to score 50 is a dream come true.”
