Manchester United are in the market for new signings this summer and could actually be aided by a former Old Trafford talent.
Eighth place in the Premier League table just isn’t good enough for Manchester United.
Yes, injuries were a factor throughout the season, but Erik ten Hag knows that he must improve having kept hold of his job.
The Dutchman is being backed by Ineos but must prove that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made the right decision.
New signings are absolutely paramount for United this summer and we are already seeing some key targets emerge.
Centre back Jarrad Branthwaite, midfielder Manuel Ugarte and striker Joshua Zirkzee are all wanted at Old Trafford as Ineos look to bolster Ten Hag’s squad.
Angel Gomes wanted – and could help Manchester United
Those positions certainly need some strengthening but United may also look for another creative player.
Bruno Fernandes takes on much of the creative load at Old Trafford and famously rarely misses a game.
A player who can operate out wide or as a number 10 could be ideal though, providing more depth to Ten Hag’s options.
Two players on United’s radar are Dani Olmo and Xavi Simons, who were teammates at RB Leipzig last season.
United are keen on Olmo in a potential £52million move whilst Simons is a loan target now he is returning to Paris Saint-Germain.
RB Leipzig want to keep Olmo and understandably would like to bring Simons back, but they are making plans in case either head elsewhere.
Bild report that RB Leipzig are now interested in signing former United talent Angel Gomes to replace Olmo or Simons.
Gomes left United in 2020, swapping Old Trafford for a move to France with Lille.
The midfielder could now end up helping United if a move for Olmo or Simons really is in the pipeline.
Agreeing to join the Bundesliga club may just help United finalise moves for Olmo or Simons, with Gomes seemingly high on their list of replacements.

Gomes has been shining in France
Often tipped for a huge future at United, Gomes broke into the first team but made just 10 first-team appearances.
United wanted Gomes to stay but he chose to walk away at the end of his contract to join Lille, though initially joined Boavista on loan.
Gomes has now kicked on and made himself a key player for Lille and even racked up 18 caps for the England Under-21’s.
Hailed as a ‘big talent’ by former Lille boss Paulo Fonseca, Gomes has been praised by Ian Wright for his development abroad.
Now 23, Gomes hit 10 assists in all competitions last season and has shown his versatility in a number of midfield roles.
RB Leipzig clearly like what they have seen and Gomes could take the next step towards fulfilling the potential we saw in him at United.
