'For whatever reason' - Dwight Yorke sends important warning to Man Utd star after 'defending' him 'many times,' he knows his true 'talent'

Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke is deeply surprised that one Red Devils star has not found a “little bit of fire in his belly” to prove his doubters wrong.

Erik ten Hag’s side have played two Premier League matches so far this season, with Manchester United already dropping valuable points in their campaign.

United secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Fulham at Old Trafford in their Premier League opener, with summer signing Joshua Zirkzee scoring the winner.

However, the Red Devils’ early momentum was already derailed on Saturday after a 2-1 Premier League defeat to Brighton at the Amex.

Joao Pedro’s injury-time header at the Amex ensured that Erik ten Hag’s men walked away from the Brighton encounter empty-handed.

United, who are currently 11th in the Premier League table, will now face Liverpool on Sunday at Old Trafford ahead of the September international break.

Yorke talks Man Utd star

Dwight Yorke, who enjoyed incredible success at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson, made his feelings clear on Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.

Marcus Rashford was met with criticism earlier month over his missed chances in the penalty shootout defeat to Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley.

The 26-year-old United forward has failed to find the back of the net or assist in his first three matches across all competitions this season.

Rashford was part of United’s pre-season tour this summer after he was left out of the England squad for Euro 2024 in Germany.

Speaking to talkSPORT (via The Daily Mirror), Yorke said: “You have to find out where the individual is at, what is going through his head, what is his thought process in his everyday life.

“At the end of the day, we all have issues, we all have tough times in our lives.

“I am sure that being left out of the England set-up last year, you expect him to come back with a little bit of fire in his belly and kick on after a poor season by his standards.

“Marcus Rashford is the only person who can get himself out of that slump.”

Yorke on Rashford and his talent

Marcus Rashford endured a disappointing run of form last season, with the England international only scoring eight times in 43 appearances across all competitions.

The United star was in the form of his life in Erik ten Hag’s debut season at Old Trafford, with Rashford netting 30 times in 56 matches in all competitions.

Yorke has now argued that it is down to Rashford to find the “burning desire” in himself and everyone is well aware of his “talent” and his “ability.”

“You can bring in the best coaches around him, but he has to have that burning desire to get himself back,” he continued.

“We know he has all the talent and all the ability.

“But if he is not prepared to put that effort in and really bring himself back from his poorest season last year, he is not going to get back to that level. He has to want to do it.

“I have defended Marcus many times, but he just seems unhappy. For whatever reason I don’t know, but just does not seem to be enjoying his football like he used to.”
