Man Utd youngster says what Ruud van Nistelrooy has been doing as 'massive' help in training already

Manchester United have been sharpening up the coaching staff ahead of the upcoming season.

Eric Ramsay, Benni McCarthy, Steve McClaren and Mitchell van der Gaag have all left Manchester United’s backroom team this year, despite Erik ten Hag staying on.

All are pursuing new opportunities, given Manchester United the chance to freshen up the coaching staff.

Along with Rene Hake and Andreas Georgson, Ruud van Nistelrooy has rejoined the club, bringing a familiar and high profile face to Carrington.

Ruud van Nistelrooy making an impact

Manchester United’s players have been impressed with Ruud Van Nistelrooy so far, who has taken an active role in training sessions.

Van Nistelrooy was one of Manchester United’s greatest ever strikers, and he will naturally have a big impact on the club’s forward players.

Young defender Rhys Bennett has explained how his influence is even greater, explaining how he has had a big impact for the young defenders too.

Speaking after the pre-season game with Liverpool, in which he was a second half substitute, Bennett told The United Stand on YouTube how Van Nistelrooy has helped.

He explained: “[Ruud was] a world class player and we can learn from him even though he was a striker at the other end of the pitch.

“We can think in a striker’s mind, what he doesn’t like playing against, it’s massive for us.”

Bennett’s comments show how Van Nistelrooy is inverting his expertise as a striker to help United’s players at the other end of the pitch.

20-year-old Bennett feels has already benefitted from working with the Dutchman, in just a handful of weeks.

Rhys Bennett on his season ahead

Rhys Bennett was Manchester United’s FA Youth Cup winning captain in 2022. His progress has been curtailed by injuries since then, before a loan at Stockport County at the end of last season.

Amid an ongoing defensive injury crisis, Bennett is not getting carried away and assuming it suddenly means he might suddenly get a first team chance.

He explained: “I just focus on everything that’s right in front of me right now.

“I put 110 per cent in, take everything one step at a time. Other people are on their journey and I’m on mine, its about getting experience and seeing what comes.”

Bennett’s future may depend on what United can achieve in the transfer market over the coming weeks.

Another loan is possible as he ideally needs to play to further his development, but United could elect to keep him around as emergency cover.
