Why Man United could beat Liverpool to £30m January deal for Premier League star

Manchester United could dip back into the transfer market in January to strengthen at left-back.

The Red Devils recruited superbly in what was Ineos‘ first summer transfer window since the minority takeover was completed.

Five major signings joined up with Erik ten Hag’s squad, and the plan was clear – to recruit young players with huge potential to give the Dutchman two quality options in every position.

Adding to the defence was a top priority and Ineos responded by striking a £50m double deal for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui – both have already made a huge impression since joining.

However, one area that was left unaddressed was at left-back, where United decided that Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia would be enough.

However, while Shaw is close to making his United return, he and Malacia are both yet to make an appearance this season. United are now reportedly eyeing a January deal.

Man United linked to Antonee Robinson

United were linked with Antonee Robinson the moment the summer window slammed shut with Ineos already planning for the future.

The 27-year-old has impressed at Fulham and is reportedly valued at £30m.

The Sun now report that Liverpool will battle United for Robinson’s signature with both clubs set to target him in January.

Liverpool reportedly view the US international as a replacement for Andy Robertson, whereas United could see him as a solution if Shaw or Malacia’s injury problems continue.

Diogo Dalot has done a superb job at left-back this season, but it is realistic to believe that Ineos will want a long-term solution for the position so that Dalot can return to his preferred side on the right.

Why Man United could beat Liverpool to sign Antonee Robinson

A deal for Robinson would be made even sweeter if United were able to pip Liverpool to his signature.

Both Premier League giants are in the market for a new left-back, and Robinson appears to be on United’s shopping list as well as Liverpool’s.

According to the report, there is one factor that could help United beat their arch-rivals to the deal.

It states that one snag for Liverpool could be a concern over playing time, with Robertson still likely to be a starter for Arne Slot if Robinson signs in January.

In contrast, United have a “greater need” for a starter, which could tempt Robinson to move to Old Trafford over Anfield.
