Edwin van der Sar opened up to former club teammate Rio Ferdinand about the requests made by one Manchester United legend after a training session.
Sir Alex Ferguson brought Edwin van der Sar to Old Trafford in 2005 from Fulham and the Dutch former shot-stopper enjoyed incredible success at the Red Devils.
Van der Sar lifted four Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy and three League Cups during his stunning Manchester United spell.
The 54-year-old former United No 1 made 266 appearances for the Red Devils and impressed during his time under legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Van der Sar’s illustrious playing career came to an end after the 2010-11 Premier League season, with the Dutchman announcing his retirement from football in 2011.

Edwin van der Sar enjoyed the protection of a formidable centre-back partnership of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic during his time at Old Trafford.
The former Ajax and Juventus star linked up with Ferdinand again on the United legend’s YouTube channel and Van der Sar opened up about his career.

The United legend told Ferdinand about Cristiano Ronaldo’s response when the Portuguese forward approached him about taking free-kicks after training.
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, Van der Sar said: “I remember after training, Cristiano would ask me to take some free-kicks at him.
“I would tell him to take the second or third goalkeeper, but he would reply: ‘No, no, I want to score against the best!’ And if he didn’t succeed, he would try again and again until he scored.”

Van der Sar hilariously revealed that he would ask Ronaldo about his “self-confidence” when his former United teammate made his free-kick request.
Speaking to Ferdinand, he added: “I would say to him, ‘Cristiano, what about my self-confidence? Why is everything about your confidence?’”
