Ruben Amorim will have time to assess his Manchester United squad ahead of the January transfer window after arriving at Old Trafford.
The Ruben Amorim era finally got underway on Sunday afternoon as Manchester United travelled to take on Ipswich Town.
Amorim was appointed by United on November 1 and waited more than three weeks to take charge for the first time.
After finishing up with Sporting and settling in at Old Trafford over the international break, Amorim was ready to go – and United made quite the start.
Marcus Rashford put United in front early on but United struggled to kick on an ended up drawing 1-1 at Portman Road.
Amorim will want United to improve greatly moving forward and that may mean getting creative in the transfer market.
Angel Gomes stance on Manchester United
United aren’t expected to spend massively in January and may already be looking more towards the summer.
One man who will be on the radar is Lille midfielder Angel Gomes.
Gomes left United for Lille in 2020 but has taken his game to another level and has become an England international this season.
Gomes has impressed Roy Keane and looks primed for a transfer in 2025.
The 24-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and could be a bargain signing either on a free transfer next summer or in a cut-price January move.
Caught Offside now claim that United are interested in re-signing Gomes but face competition from the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.
That Premier League interest is enormous but it’s stated that Gomes would favour a return to United over joining Premier League rivals.
Gomes grew up in Salford and the chance to finally become a United star surely appeals to the creative midfielder.

Ruben Amorim watched Gomes get sent off
United will be exploring a move for Gomes and new boss Amorim appears to be on board.
Reports suggest that Amorim wants Gomes at United whilst Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox are both keen to sign him.
With United decision makers in agreement and Gomes allegedly fancying a return to Old Trafford, this is one signing we could eee in 2025.
Amorim has already faced Gomes this season, but perhaps didn’t see the best of him.
Sporting beat Lille 2-0 in the Champions League earlier this season with Gomes sent off in front of Amorim.
Amorim seemingly won’t let that change his opinion of Gomes though with a United return potentially in the pipeline.
