Manchester United will truly begin the Ruben Amorim era on Sunday afternoon as the new boss takes on Kieran McKenna and Ipswich Town.
The international break is coming to an end and Manchester United fans will be fully focused on Sunday afternoon.
Ruben Amorim is United’s new head coach and makes his bow against Ipswich Town at Portman Road this weekend.
Amorim will battle Kieran McKenna – a former United man himself – and will be desperate to start with a victory.
The international break means that Amorim hasn’t had chance to work with all of his United players yet.
Amorim will look to learn as much as about his players as quickly as possible – especially with the January transfer window looming.
Sporting star linked with following Ruben Amorim to Manchester United
We aren’t expecting to see United splash the cash in January having brought in five first-team additions over the summer.
Reports this week suggest that United still want Jarrad Branthwaite after missing out on the Everton defender in the summer transfer window.
Branthwaite is not the only left-footed. Centre back being linked with United though.
Reporter Sacha Tavolieri has now told Sky Sports in Switzerland that Sporting defender Ousmane Diomande is on the radar.
It’s stated that Diomande has ‘already spoken with Amorim’ about a potential move to United.
Diomande – hailed as ‘excellent by teammate Jeremiah St Juste whilst speaking to Record – is believed to be interested in working under Amorim again having impressed under him at Sporting.
The Ivorian centre back is wanted by Manchester City but it’s claimed that Diomande is leaning towards a move to United instead.
This would be a coup for United and a major win over City, but City’s plans to make a move in January – potentially earlier than United can move – may leave the defender with a tough decision.

Ousmane Diomande’s Sporting teammates linked with United
Diomande joined Sporting in 2023 having shown big potential in his time with Danish side Midtjylland.
The 20-year-old is one of the top young centre backs in the game and Amorim may just provide United with the inside track on signing him.
Diomande is far from the only Sporting player being linked with United though.
United in Focus understands that United are keen on Sporting winger Francisco Trincao, a player who has excelled under Amorim.
United also want Sporting wonderkid Geovany Quenda whilst Sporting-owned wonderkid Dario Essugo is on United’s radar.
That is without even mentioning the likes of Goncalo Inacio, Morten Hjulmand, Pedro Goncalves and goal machine Viktor Gyokeres.
Amorim doesn’t want to raid Sporting in January but United may well come knocking for multiple targets at the end of the season.
