Report: Juventus plot January raid for out-of-form £36m Manchester United player - on one condition

Manchester United only signed Joshua Zirkzee over the summer but questions already surround his long-term future at Old Trafford.

Rasmus Hojlund’s hot-and-cold debut season at Old Trafford left Manchester United needing to sign another striker.

Hojlund needed more support in the final third and United decided to splash the cash on signing Joshua Zirkzee.

United paid £36million to sign Zirkzee from Bologna having been impressed with his displays in Serie A.

Zirkzee scored on his Premier League debut against Fulham but has now gone 16 games without a goal in all competitions.

Zirkzee looks devoid of confidence right now and speculation already surrounds his future just months after joining United.

Juventus stance on Joshua Zirkzee move

United want Ruben Amorim to improve Zirkzee as the Portuguese coach arrives at Old Trafford.

Speculation surrounds Zirkzee’s future already though with his lack of goals causing concern.

Zirkzee excelled under Juventus boss Thiago Motta at Bologna and a reunion has been bloated.

Luciano Moggi suggested Juventus move for Zirkzee whilst pundit Massimo Orlando believes Juventus should swap Dusan Vlahovic for Zirkzee.

Calciomercato now claim that Juventus will target Zirkzee with the idea of a loan with obligation to buy the Dutchman in the summer.

That depends on the future of striker Vlahovic though with Juve in a quandary over the Serbian.

Vlahovic is out of contract in 2026 and he current earns around £190,000-a-week – a figure Juventus understandably want to bring down.

If Juve can’t convince Vlahovic to take a pay cut and stay in Turin, they will seemingly turn to Zirkzee as a replacement.

Zirkzee needs some patience at Manchester United

New manager Amorim will now come in and assess the United squad, analysing just who he wants to keep and who he would like to move on in the future.

Zirkzee has struggled in recent weeks – there is no getting away from that fact.

Amorim will hope to get him firing in front of goal, just as he did with Viktor Gyokeres at Sporting.

United were convinced enough by Zirkzee just a few months ago to spend considerable money on signing him.

Letting him go in January would be incredibly rash for a player who has shown his ability in the past but just hasn’t quite clicked yet.

Some new signings take a while to get going and Zirkzee needs some time to develop under Amorim before being offloaded.
