Manchester United continue to be linked with a move for Sporting Lisbon star Geovany Quenda.
Ever since Ruben Amorim’s arrival at Manchester United, the Red Devils have been linked with moves for many of his former players.
United have been linked with Viktor Gyokeres after the 26-year-old striker rose to stardom under Ruben Amorim in Portugal.
However, 17-year-old star Geovany Quenda has also been linked to Man United after breaking through to Amorim’s Sporting side this season.
Quenda has been compared to Bukayo Saka after starring in a right-wing role at Sporting, and it has been reported that Quenda is “dreaming” of a Premier League move.
Ruben Amorim promised not to sign Sporting players in January
Anyone who watched Sporting’s farewell to Amorim knows just how much love is shared between the Portuguese coach and the club.
After arriving in Manchester, Amorim promised he would not sign Sporting players in January out of respect for his former side and their title hopes this season.
Of course, if United hesitate that means that other clubs could pounce and sign Sporting’s biggest stars in January before the Red Devils or Amorim even have a chance.
Man United plan to sign Geovany Quenda in January
According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, United plan to make a move for exciting youngster Geovany Quenda in January despite Amorim’s promise.
That is because the Red Devils plan to put a deal in place for Quenda next month with an agreement that he will join in the summer.
Quenda has a release clause of £83m, but the A Bola report suggests that United’s bidding will start no lower than €40million (£33m).
Amorim is a huge fan of Quenda having watched him work his way into his Sporting side. United’s new coach described him as a “very talented kid” who is “very focused”.
United are clearly worried about missing out on Quenda but by striking a deal in January they make sure to fend off any competition.
It also honours Amorim’s promise not to strip Sporting of their best players midway through the season.
