Report: One recent Manchester United coaching addition now likely to stay amid major Ruben Amorim changes

Manchester United confirmed a number of coaching changes under new boss Ruben Amorim but one man’s future remains unclear.

The Ruben Amorim era can finally begin at Manchester United.

Amorim was officially appointed as United boss on November 1, but the terms of the deal allowed him to continue managing Sporting.

The international break is now here and Amorim was at Carrington on Monday as he starts life as United boss.

Amorim won his final game in charge of Sporting, coming from 2-0 down to beat Braga 4-2 before heading to Manchester.

The 39-year-old hasn’t even been given his work permit yet but has already made some big calls.

Andreas Georgson’s Manchester United future

Amorim has decided to let Ruud van Nistelrooy leave United just months after he joined Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff.

Rene Hake and Jelle ten Rouwelaar are also leaving the club with three Dutchmen departing having teamed up with compatriot Ten Hag.

Those are some major changes for Amorim to make early on but it’s clear that he wants his own men around him at Old Trafford.

However, one coaching addition from the summer could actually end up staying.

The Daily Mail report that Andreas Georgson is now ‘likely’ to stay as part of Amorim’s coaching staff moving forward.

It’s highlighted that Georgson has a prior relationship with technical director Jason Wilcox from their time together at Southampton.

That means Georgson – who has a reputation as a set-piece specialist – looks poised to stay and work alongside Amorim.

The fact that Georgson wasn’t included in the departures on Monday suggested that there was a glimmer of hope for him in terms of staying at the club – and that now looks to be the case.

Georgson gamble may pay off

United’s coaching additions over the summer were impressive, in large part because of the number of coaches who turned their backs on managerial roles.

Van Nistelrooy could have become Burnley boss but chose to return to United as a coach.

Hake had been doing fine work as Go Ahead Eagles boss but traded that in to reunite with former Twente colleague Ten Hag.

The pair now find themselves out of work, which will be a blow even if they will have enjoyed and learned a lot from their time at United.

Georgson quit his post as Lillestrom boss to join United and he at least has a chance to stay at Old Trafford.

The Swede would no doubt love some longevity at United and whilst those around him are leaving, Georgson has a chance to play a big role in the Amorim revolution.
