Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos have been incredibly busy with the Manchester United project since the 73-year-old British billionaire’s partial takeover of the Red Devils.
Ineos have experienced the highs and lows at the Premier League club, including praise for their transfer business last summer and criticism for their spending cuts.
However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s regime at Old Trafford has made some major calls when it has come to offloading certain Manchester United first-team players from the club.
As the 2026 summer transfer window draws to a close, United In Focus has named the three best United player sales that have been made under Ineos so far.
3. Rasmus Hojlund (£38m to Napoli)
Rasmus Hojlund’s transfer is not a masterstroke by Ineos by any stretch of the imagination, considering the loss that came from the Dutch striker’s exit.
But it was an example of Ineos trying to course-correct the mistakes from the past Man Utd regime rather than riding it out and hoping things turned in their favour.
United were able to create a loan deal with a permanent option to buy for Rasmus Hojlund, which hinged on Napoli securing a place back in the Champions League.
Napoli were able to finish in a Champions League qualification spot last season, and Ineos were able to cut ties with the 23-year-old Danish forward and move forward.
2. Scott McTominay (£25.7m to Napoli)
Scott McTominay’s exit from Old Trafford has been contentious, but the more that time passes, the righter that Ineos were to sell the 29-year-old Scottish midfielder.
Granted, Ineos did fumble by putting more value in signing Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain, which paved the way for Scott McTominay’s 2024 transfer.
However, United were finally able to break away from the longstanding memories of the ‘McFred’ midfield partnership that had haunted the Red Devils for a long time.
The Red Devils made pure profit from McTominay’s move to Napoli and the Scotland international has been able to move his own career forward away from United.
1. Alejandro Garnacho (£40m to Chelsea)
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, especially in the context of Alejandro Garnacho’s playing career since Man Utd sold him to Chelsea in the 2025 summer transfer window.
Not only were Ineos able to offload Alejandro Garnacho after his turbulent relationship with Ruben Amorim, but also the player sale hurt Chelsea’s finances more than United’s.
United made pure profit on the 22-year-old Argentina winger’s transfer to the Blues under the Premier League’s old Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
That is not to mention that the Red Devils could make a further profit if Aston Villa sign Garnacho permanently because of the 10 per cent sell-on clause in his deal.
