Jamie Carragher names three Man Utd legends who make 10 best Premier League forwards of all time, one ranks at No 3

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has revealed that three Manchester United legends would make his top 10 Premier League forwards of all time.

Jamie Carragher took part in the segment on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry appearing alongside him for the show.

Sky Sports compiled a 13-man shortlist for the 10 best Premier League forwards and the likes of attacking midfielders were excluded from selection.

A star-studded roster of Manchester United legends failed to make Monday Night Football’s shortlist, including Andy Cole and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Carragher picks his top 10 forwards

Jamie Carragher named former Tottenham ace Gareth Bale in the No 10 spot and placed Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp at ninth in his rankings.

Ex-Chelsea star Eden Hazard and Premier League legend Alan Shearer finished eighth and seventh respectively before Wayne Rooney made his mark at No 6.

Wayne Rooney is widely regarded as one of the best strikers of all time and the Manchester United legend enjoyed incredible success at Old Trafford.

Chelsea hero Didier Drogba finished fifth ahead of Rooney before the second United legend made the rankings, with Eric Cantona coming fourth.

Eric Cantona had a stunning impact during the 1990s at United under Sir Alex Ferguson and the Frenchman left behind a long-lasting legacy at the club.

Carragher then opted for Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Cantona for the No 3 position before Mohamed Salah and Thierry Henry finished second and first respectively.

Why Carragher picked Henry at No 1

Thierry Henry was a linchpin attacking forward for legendary former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger during the rivalry between United and the Gunners.

The 47-year-old Frenchman is widely hailed as one of the best players in Premier League history and Henry had a stunning impact at the Emirates.

During his time at the Gunners, Henry lifted two Premier League titles and two FA Cups, including being a key part of the famous ‘Invincibles’ team.

Carragher insisted that the former Arsenal striker’s “all-round ability” makes him No 1 on his 10 best Premier League forwards of all time.

“I think it’s universally thought that you are the best player to play in the Premier League,” he told Henry on Sky Sports.

“I think most people would look at your time… I played against a few of these players, and in the main, it was a battle, Thierry is the one player on that list that made me feel completely inferior, that I couldn’t cope.

“Pace, physicality, skill, there wasn’t any area I thought there was a weakness or a chink in the armour where I thought I could get the better of him.”

Carragher added: “He scored over 20 Premier League goals in a season and over 20 Premier League assists as well.

“That’s an all-round footballer and I think that all-round ability makes you number one.”
