MUTV pundits both have same theory over Mason Mount injury, have high hopes for him under Ruben Amorim

Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount faces yet another spell on the sidelines with injury.

Ruben Amorim put his faith in Mason Mount for the Manchester derby, and saw the midfielder go down with injury after just 12 minutes.

Manchester United were able to win the game 2-1 without Mount. The extent of his injury was unclear – but the midfielder looked anguished to have to leave the pitch early.

Mount has a terrible injury history at Manchester United – and the club were not taking any chances with his early substition.

Mason Mount injury problems

Mason Mount has only made three Premier League starts this season, and was making just his second since August against City.

Former United defender John O’Shea believes Mount may have suffered a recurrence of his previous calf injury, based on how he went down at The Etihad.

O’Shea told MUTV: “He can’t build up any momentum, can he? And it’s looks like it’s possibly a little calf issue. [I’m] just speculating there myself, but possibly what he suffered from [before].

“You feel gutted for the kid, because, you know, he’s someone who lives his life right, that trains right, but unfortunately, his body at the minute, it’s just letting him down.

“And hopefully that’ll change, because he can be, and hopefully could be, an important player of United, but he just not been able to sustain any fitness unfortunately.”

Wes Brown echoed his sentiments and agreed it looked like the defender suffering a similar injury to the one he had previously.

He explained: “It looked like it was the same injury, just by his reaction. He’s obviously not hobbled off, but he can feel something.

“It’s one of them, if it is the same one, there’s no point getting [it] any worse. He’s just got to accept it and come off. But yeah, it’s a big blow for us, and, you know, it’s a massive blow for him personally.

“Just coming back to fitness, he would have been ready to go. Managers been playing so you could see on his face and other disappointment, and it’s now how he deals with that.”

What Ruben Amorim said about Mason Mount injury

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim attributed Mount’s injury to pure bad luck, rather than a problem with the player.

He was quoted by the club website: “He really fits our style. He will continue to fit because he’s a very good player. Also, outside of the pitch, he is the kind of character I want in this team and we want as a club in this team.

“He has a movement, it’s not like something he made a sprint. He made a movement and stretched his leg and felt something.

“It’s bad luck, nothing with the problem of the body of Mason Mount. It was a bad movement and he is going to recover because we need him.”
