Manchester United fans could not hold back their feelings after Rasmus Hojlund’s performance against Premier League side Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday evening.
The Red Devils returned to winning ways on Thursday evening with a late 2-1 Europa League win over Scottish outfit Rangers at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are within touching distance of reaching the knockout rounds of the Europa League and will face Romanian outfit FCSB next Thursday away from home.
The Red Devils have won their last four matches in the Europa League under Ruben Amorim, but United have struggled in the league under the Portuguese.
United are in the bottom half of the Premier League table and the Red Devils won only seven of their 22 matches ahead of the Fulham encounter.
Ruben Amorim’s men showed their vulnerability in the Premier League last weekend with their 3-1 defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford.
Hojlund starts for Man Utd at Craven Cottage
Rasmus Hojlund returned to the Manchester United starting XI for the Fulham match after a cameo appearance against Rangers in the Europa League.
Ruben Amorim has been rotating between Hojlund and United summer signing Joshua Zirkzee amid a lack of goalscoring output from either player.
Hojlund, who signed from Atalanta in 2023, saw both the highs and lows during his debut season at Old Trafford under former United manager Erik ten Hag.
The 21-year-old Danish forward scored 16 times in 43 appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils in the 2023-24 campaign.
Hojlund has struggled in his second campaign at United and the Denmark international has only scored seven times in 27 matches in the 2024-25 season.
The United striker struggled to inject his influence in the final third for the Red Devils and Hojlund’s struggles continued going into half-time at Craven Cottage.
Amorim kept Hojlund on for the first part of the second half and the former Atalanta man still couldn’t make his mark for the Red Devils against Fulham.
The 39-year-old Portuguese manager put the Denmark striker out of his misery in the 58th minute and replaced him with United forward Joshua Zirkzee.
Man Utd fans react to Hojlund’s display vs Fulham
United fans on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, were left deeply frustrated by Hojlund’s lacklustre display against Fulham in the Premier League clash.
Red Devils supporters took aim at the United striker over his “very poor” hold-up play and how “horrible” Hojlund was “with the ball” at his feet.
“Hojlund’s hold-up play has been very poor. Maybe Amorim doesn’t have the striker he wants,” one fan said.
Another X user wrote: “I like Hojlund and all, but he is horrible with the ball at his feet.”
Someone else commented: “We can’t use the ball upfront because every ball bounces off Hojlund. Can’t control it, can’t hold it up. Useless.”
“Hojlund is a number [nine] that has a minus first touch. Ball bouncing off his feet like they’re made of cement,” a fourth fan posted.
While a fifth tweeted: “Hojlund’s hold-up play has been abysmal.”
Somebody else claimed: “Hojlund needs to be more of a nuisance of himself and make runs. He always wants [the] ball to feet, which ironically isn’t his strength.”
A seventh suggested: “Hojlund is a calamity, can’t hold the ball up and decision-making is as bad as his first touch.”
“Hojlund’s hold-up play is so poor,” another simply said.
