Opinion: 'Incredible' Man Utd ace had Erik ten Hag's support but is putting himself at risk under Ruben Amorim

Manchester United slumped to another home defeat on Sunday afternoon as Brighton and Hove Albion won at Old Trafford once again.

Erik ten Hag lost both of his home Premier League games as Manchester United boss against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Seagulls have found a winning formula at Old Trafford and Ruben Amorim was looking to bring that to an end.

Sadly, Amorim suffered defeat too as Brighton secured a 3-1 win at Old Trafford.

Yankuba Minteh put the visitors in front before Bruno Fernandes gave United hope with an equaliser from the penalty spot.

Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter bagged goals in the second half to hand Amorim yet another home defeat.

Manchester United ace is putting himself in danger

United simply weren’t good enough on the day but one player will feel especially gutted with his part in the defeat.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana committed a terrible error to effectively take the game away from United.

Onana was called into action to deal with a simple ball across the box, which should have been routine enough for any top goalkeeper.

The United stopper contrived to fumble the ball and hand Rutter an open goal to seal Brighton’s victory.

This was yet another clanger from Onana, which we saw so many times in the early stages of last season.

Onana settled down and started to look like a top Premier League stopper.

Rio Ferdinand hailed Onana earlier this season, suggesting that he was one of few players stepping up.

Since then though, Onana has committed a number of major errors and has cost United multiple goals.

Fans will remember an error at Plzen in the Europa League whilst Morgan Gibbs-White praised Onana as ‘incredible’ despite a big mistake to allow the Nottingham Forest star to score

Onana had the complete backing of Ten Hag having worked with him at Ajax, but Amorim does not have the same connection to the Cameroonian star.

Amorim must be ruthless in his attempts to take United forward and that means everybody is under the microscope – even Onana.

If Onana keeps making mistakes like he did against Brighton, Amorim may be given no choice but to try and move him out of the club and bring in a replacement he can trust.

Ruben Amorim already wants new goalkeepers

Onana’s spate of errors comes just as rumours surround United’s goalkeeping department.

Reports earlier in January suggested that Amorim wants to sign not one but two goalkeepers.

Altay Bayindir was expected to leave but that departure may have been altered a little given his recent display at Arsenal.

Onana simply must step up his game if he is to avoid the axe and continue as United’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen is believed to be on United’s radar and with the Dutchman unlikely to be on the radar as a second-choice stopper, Onana’s position may just be under threat.
