Manchester United now face an even bigger task in landing one fast-rising prospect in Europe after four Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in signing the player.
Ruben Amorim will be expected to begin the major overhaul of his Manchester United first-team squad at the end of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.
The 40-year-old United manager has wasted no time already offloading some players in the January transfer window after inheriting Erik ten Hag’s squad.
Among the departures from Old Trafford in the winter window were Marcus Rashford’s loan move to Aston Villa and Antony’s loan transfer to Real Betis.
Ruben Amorim saw very little reinforcement arrive in the January window, with United’s major signing being wing-back Patrick Dorgu from Serie A side Lecce.
The former Sporting CP boss will likely need additional midfield reinforcement amid uncertainty around the long-term futures of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.
Christian Eriksen will be out of contract in the summer and the former Ajax and Tottenham star is tipped to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.
Casemiro, on the other hand, is under contract with United until 2026, but the former Real Madrid star has been deemed surplus to requirement at Old Trafford.

Man Utd target attracts competition
According to GiveMeSport, the race to sign former Manchester United talent Angel Gomes has intensified amid interest from four other Premier League clubs.
United have been linked with bringing Angel Gomes back to Old Trafford and it is believed that Tottenham are keen to sign him on a pre-contract agreement.
GiveMeSport reports that Tottenham have failed to agree a deal with Gomes at the time of writing and it has opened the ‘door for rival clubs to enter the race.’
The publication added that Aston Villa, Bournemouth and West Ham are alongside United in ‘monitoring the situation closely’ around the 24-year-old midfielder.
It is claimed that Aston Villa have a ‘strong interest’ in landing Lille star Gomes and ‘could present an appealing option’ for the player should he leave the French club.
Why transfer interest is rising in Gomes
Angel Gomes is set to be out of contract with Lille in the summer and the former United player could walk out of the French club as a free agent.
The Lille midfielder came through the United youth academy and featured in the first team, but Gomes struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at senior level.
Gomes left Old Trafford as a free agent in 2020 and completed a sensational free transfer move to Lille, with the ex-United talent establishing himself in the first team.
The Lille player has previously played as an attacking midfielder, but he has reinvented himself as a central midfielder and impressed at the Ligue 1 club.
Gomes’ impressive run of form at Lille even led to the former United player securing his call-up to the England national team in 2024.
