Manchester United fans wasted no time dropping their first impressions of Patrick Dorgu after his Red Devils debut against Leicester City in the FA Cup.
Patrick Dorgu was Ruben Amorim’s major signing for the January transfer window after Manchester United landed him from Serie A side Lecce.
The 20-year-old Danish defender arrived at Old Trafford in February ahead of the window closing, with Dorgu inking a five-and-a-half-year deal with the Red Devils.
United agreed a deal worth £25m for Dorgu and the Red Devils could pay out a further £4.1m to Italian outfit Lecce if add-ons are met.
Ruben Amorim has lacked effective wing-backs to play his tactical system at United since his arrival from Primeira Liga side Sporting CP last November.
Dorgu excels as a left-back or left wing-back, but the Denmark international is capable of playing out on the right flank.

Dorgu makes Man Utd debut in FA Cup
Ruben Amorim surprised Manchester United fans with the bizarre decision to play Patrick Dorgu out on the right instead of his preferred left wing-back role.
The 40-year-old United manager is without Luke Shaw due to injury and Tyrell Malacia left Old Trafford and signed on loan for Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.
However, Amorim opted to play United right-back Diogo Dalot at left wing-back and Dorgu was the right wing-back for the FA Cup tie against Leicester City.
Dorgu was lively in the first half at Old Trafford and the Denmark and United defender wasn’t afraid to commit to the attack and showed off his confidence.
The Red Devils failed to make an impact in the final third in the first half and Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men took the lead before half-time on Friday evening.
Bobby De Cordova-Reid opened the scoring at Old Trafford and Amorim then made another big call during the break and ahead of the second half.
Amorim withdrew Dorgu after only 45 minutes and United star Alejandro Garnacho was brought on for the defender after the break.
Man Utd fans react to Dorgu’s display vs Leicester
United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, were baffled by Ruben Amorim’s decision to play Dorgu out on the right instead of the left.
One X user wrote: “Amorim needs to stop overcomplicating things; play Dalot as a RWB and Dorgu as a LWB. That decision right there is the reason why we play more back passes.”
Another added: “You recruit a LWB [in] Dorgu and play him as RWB and Dalot continues as LWB. Make sense of that. [Manuel] Ugarte has been poor. A listless performance.”
Somebody else tweeted: “Someone explain why Dorgu was brought in as a LWB but [he] is playing RWB and Dalot is on the left? Then he comes off at HT and Dalot stays on? Dalot must be incredible in training.”
While a fourth said: “That Dorgu change is looking worse and worse by the minute. Dalot is so far out of [position] it’s unreal. We’ve seen Amorim be ruthless this season, so why is a bloke who just can’t play that position getting a pass every game?”
A fifth fan posted: “Dorgu off but Dalot still on is a really shocking decision. Amorim, what are you doing?”
“This is one of the worst I have seen us. Not even running. And taking Dorgu off instead of Dalot is crazy to me,” another suggested.
And a seventh tweeted: “So, after playing Dorgu at RWB during which he was [Man] Utd’s best player, Amorim took him off and left Dalot on.”
Someone else said: “Just start Amad [Diallo] [at] RWB and Dorgu [at] LWB, drop Dalot. It surely isn’t that hard.”
