Permanent exit hope to fighting for Ruben Amorim's first team, what Man Utd's loanees hope to gain

Manchester United had two major objectives heading into the January transfer window: sign a left wing-back and find a new club for Marcus Rashford.

The club is comfortable with their business but most fans feel Manchester United are light in the striker department. Ruben Amorim has not had any attackers added to his light squad but saw Antony and Marcus Rashford depart the club this month.

Patrick Dorgu joined from Lecce for £30m – below his valuation, which represents a good deal, but United had no more money to strengthen the squad for the remainder of the season.

The Patrick Dorgu deal helped box off Amorim’s greatest desire in the market and United’s most pressing position. We won’t have to wait long for the focus to shift towards a new striker.

Each loan deal has its own aims and United will be hoping all of their loanees experience successful stints away from the club.

Manchester United loanees

Antony: Antony’s temporary switch to Real Betis presents the Brazilian with an opportunity to play regular football in La Liga. Good form will only result in a rise for the player’s market valuation because United will be trying to sell Antony in the summer. He was voted man of the match after his Real Betis debut.

Dan Gore: Dan Gore made his debut for Rotherham on Saturday, one day after completing his loan switch. He’s gone straight into the team and it’s now his time to prove that he was too good for youth football. Gore registered an assist after coming on from the bench. United’s U21 captain put in a very solid display.

Marcus Rashford: Marcus Rashford wanted a move to Barcelona but had to settle for Aston Villa. He has a lot of critics to prove wrong for the remainder of the season. Unai Emery is the one tasked with getting him back to his best.

Tyrell Malacia: Another loan outgoing is expected with Tyrell Malacia set to join PSV Eindhoven. He will get a chance to play regular football and United may be able to get something for him in the summer.

Ethan Wheatley: One of the youngsters send on loan was Ethan Wheatley, joining Walsall until the end of the season. He’s already had his first ever senior start. Hopefully, he can score a few goals in League Two before returning to the club.

Best case scenario for Manchester United loanees

United will be hoping all of their loanees avoid any injuries while they’re away on loan.

For some players, it’s about getting regular first team football and proving themselves elsewhere.

For others it’s about gaining experience from playing senior football.

United will be hoping that two or three of these loans goes well enough to rise valuations in the transfer market, including Antony and Malacia.
