Wayne Rooney argues Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos pulled off ‘real coup’ with Man Utd signing, he brings ‘balance’ to team

Wayne Rooney has hailed one Manchester United signing made under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Ineos regime after Ruben Amorim’s men beat Leicester City.

Ruben Amorim’s side visited the King Power Stadium on Sunday evening and Manchester United outclassed Leicester City in a convincing 3-0 win on the night.

Rasmus Hojlund opened the scoring in the first half and the 22-year-old United and Denmark striker ended his 21-match streak of failing to find the back of the net.

United went into the break 1-0 up and the Red Devils built on their momentum in the second half of the Premier League tie at the King Power Stadium.

Alejandro Garnacho doubled United’s advantage after Rasmus Hojlund’s opener before Bruno Fernandes slotted home the Red Devils’ third in the 90th minute.

Amorim’s men are 13th in the Premier League table after United’s 3-0 victory over Leicester City going into the March international break.

Wayne Rooney speaks out on Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos’ Man Utd transfer for Ruben Amorim’s first-team squad

Ruben Amorim is expected to reinforce his Manchester United first-team squad in the summer transfer window after a turbulent 2024-25 Premier League campaign.

The 40-year-old United manager inherited his squad from former Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag after he arrived at Old Trafford from Sporting CP in November.

Erik ten Hag was sacked as United manager last October after a disastrous start to the 2024-25 season and Amorim is attempting to steer the ship at Old Trafford.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos bolstered Amorim’s United squad in the January window with the arrivals of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and Ayden Heaven from Arsenal.

Wayne Rooney was blown away by Ayden Heaven’s performance for the Red Devils against Leicester City and he called him a “real coup” of a signing for United.

Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, Rooney said: “Yeah, there is [dealing with pressure].

“And obviously he’s come in from Arsenal as well, so he knows what it’s like to be at a big club [having been] at Arsenal.

“So, that will have helped him. But he doesn’t look like he’s playing with pressure.

“He looks calm, he’s composed, he gives them good balance, obviously with his left foot.

“He looks quick. He looks like he likes defending. So, I think he’s a real coup for Manchester United.”

What Ruben Amorim thinks of Ayden Heaven’s Man Utd progress so far

Ayden Heaven impressed United fans with his first-half performance at the King Power Stadium, but the former Arsenal talent suffered a setback in the match.

The 18-year-old United defender was stretchered off early into the second half of Sunday’s 3-0 win against Leicester City after a devastating injury to Heaven.

Speaking after the match, Amorim praised what he had seen from Heaven after his progression into the United first team was fast-tracked under him.

“Yeah, he already did that [showed promise] against Arsenal and today, and against Real Sociedad,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“Today was for me the most difficult game for him, because he plays so well against Real Sociedad, and we expect always for these young kids to relax a little bit.

“But he was so focused and he played quite well, so let’s hope for the best.”

The Red Devils will face Nottingham Forest at City Ground on 1st April in their first Premier League match after the end of the March international break.
