Manchester United missed out on a potential bargain deal that will have Ineos kicking themselves.
Ineos have been flawless with recruitment since arriving at Manchester United, with all seven of their signings making a positive impact.
But Ruben Amorim wanted a striker to be signed in January and his wish was denied with the Red Devils struggling to balance their finances.
A striker will be United’s top priority in the summer with Victor Osimhen wanted by Ineos, but it won’t come cheap.

Ineos will regret Serhou Guirassy snub at Man United
In the summer, United could have signed Serhou Guirassy but Ineos decided that his £15m release clause was too expensive for a player with only one good season under his belt.
United’s hesitation allowed Borussia Dortmund to swoop, and Guirassy has been outstanding for the German giants.
Guirassy scored a Champions League hat-trick against Barcelona on Tuesday evening as the latest reminder to Ineos that they have made a major misjudgement.
In the summer, Ineos decided to sign Joshua Zirkzee ahead of Guirassy, but Amorim has quickly decided that the Dutchman is better suited to the No.10 role.
Guirassy is now the Champions League’s top scorer, and United have missed their chance to sign the Guinea international – or at least they have missed out on a cheap deal.
Serhou Guirassy now valued at £60m
If Ineos decided that Guirassy was too expensive at £15m, then a deal seems very unlikely given that his value has quadrupled this season.
According to The Mirror, Guirassy now has a £60m release clause attached to his Dortmund contract, with clubs circling for his signature.
The report claims that the release clause only applies for a select group of European clubs.
Ineos are planning on raising £100m in sales this summer, which should fund a deal for a top-class striker, but it seems unlikely that Guirassy will be among Ineos’ top targets.

Instead, Ineos’ transfer strategy has been to target young and upcoming stars, and at 29 years old Guirassy no longer fits that template.
Lessons can be learned from missing out on Guirassy last summer.
