Sir Alex Ferguson was ruthlessly ‘shouting’ at ex-Man Utd striker for what he did in match, it proved his world-class standards

Patrice Evra has recalled the brutal lesson that one of his ex-Manchester United teammates received under iconic former manager Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson has been out of the managerial dugout since 2013 after he called it time on his legendary career at the end of the 2012-13 Premier League campaign.

Manchester United lifted 13 Premier League titles under the 83-year-old Scotsman, including their last league trophy ahead of Ferguson’s retirement from management.

Ferguson is one of the best managers of all time and the legendary former United manager enjoyed incredible success during his 26-year reign at Old Trafford.

The iconic Scot had a decorated silverware career as a club manager both in England with United and in his native homeland of Scotland with Aberdeen.

Ferguson famously led United to their iconic treble win in their 1998-99 campaign and ushered in a period of dominance over English football with the Red Devils.

Patrice Evra arrived at Old Trafford under Ferguson’s reign in 2006 after the Red Devils signed the 43-year-old Frenchman from Ligue 1 side Monaco.

The former Red Devils left-back spent the majority of his spell at the club under Ferguson and was part of the last United team to lift the Premier League trophy.

Man Utd legend Patrice Evra recalls one incident involving Sir Alex Ferguson at the Premier League club

Sir Alex Ferguson established a reputation for putting faith in the Manchester United youth academy, which led to the rise of the ‘Class of ‘92’ players at the club.

Danny Welbeck was one former United player who rose through the ranks of the academy system and climbed into the United first-team squad under Ferguson.

Patrice Evra recalled that Danny Welbeck was part of a United squad that played in a friendly match in Saudi Arabia and the former United striker missed a penalty.

The United legend claimed that Wayne Rooney had handed Welbeck the ball and allowed him to take the spot-kick, but Ferguson was not happy with what happened.

Evra said that United lost the 45-minute friendly match and Ferguson dropped one of his infamous ‘hairdryer treatments’ on Welbeck in the dressing room.

Speaking on the SDS YouTube channel, he said: “[Wayne] Rooney gave the ball to Welbeck, but he missed the penalty.

“We lost the game, but it was a friendly, like a 45-minute game.

“When we got back into the dressing room, Ferguson [shouted], ‘Welbeck!’ Me and Welbeck were in the toilet, he was having a pee, but Ferguson was shouting.

“‘Who the f— do you think you are? Coming in the first team, taking a penalty.

“I was like, ‘Boss, it’s just a friendly game.’ He was like, ‘F— the friendly game.’”

Patrice Evra makes an eye-opening assessment of former Man Utd manager Sir Alex Ferguson in the current football landscape

Evra hilariously suggested that he would not be surprised if Ferguson ended up in prison if he were still a manager now, considering the Scot’s hairdryer treatments.

“If Ferguson [were] coaching right now, he would probably end up in jail,” he said.

“There’s no way Ferguson would not be in jail with what he would do to.

“Do you know how many players I saw cry because he gave them the hairdryer, throwing boots – he was evil.”

Evra left United in 2014 and went on to play for Juventus, Marseille and West Ham before he called it time on his prolific playing career in 2019.
