Manchester United moved quickly to sign Matheus Cunha and it seems to have unsettled staff at Wolves.
After the disappointing end to the 2024/25 campaign, Ineos quickly confirmed the signing of Matheus Cunha on the first day of the summer window.
Wolves fans were gutted to lose Cunha after such a successful season at Molineux where he scored 15 goals and assisted six times in the Premier League.
Wolves finished level on points with Manchester United in the Premier League table, and with Matheus Cunha now leaving they are at risk of relegation. To make matters worse, one of their top club chiefs has now departed.

Wolves sporting director leaves after Matheus Cunha deal
United triggered Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause, meaning Wolves could do very little about the Red Devils swooping in for the Brazilian.
Ineos did hold negotiations to spread the cost of Cunha’s fee over multiple years, but Wolves could not stand in the way of the 26-year-old leaving.
Just days after Cunha’s move was confirmed, journalist John Percy reports that Wolves are set to announce the departure of their sporting director Matt Hobbs.
Hobbs has spent over a decade working with Wolves, but leaves by mutual consent during a window where the club is braced to lose several key players.
Matheus Cunha can take step up after Wolves exit
At Wolves, Cunha became one of the Premier League’s best finishers and that is one of many reasons why he has been poached by Ineos.
Cunha’s versatility suits Amorim’s system, and he has already had experience playing in a 3-4-2-1 formation this season.

United legend Gary Neville believes Cunha can provide a ‘spark’ next season, and making the step up to Old Trafford could elevate him to a new level.
With Ineos now in talks for Bryan Mbeumo, United will have a new-look front three next season with Cunha set to be an integral part of the attack.
