Bruno Fernandes explains why it would have been a ‘privilege’ to play with Wayne Rooney

Bruno Fernandes has told Wayne Rooney how it would have been a privilege to have shared the same pitch as Manchester United’s greatest goalscorer.

In the six years Bruno Fernandes has been at Manchester United, the Portuguese international has long been the talisman for the team.

That is why Fernandes is a contender to win the Premier League Player of the Year award, with Wayne Rooney stressing he would be a worthy winner.

Fernandes recently appeared on Wayne Rooney’s podcast to discuss his career as well as some of his dreams.

Bruno Fernandes hails Wayne Rooney as a player

It will be debated for years about whether Fernandes would get into United’s great teams down the years.

Fernandes has been unfortunate to have been United’s star player for so long without winning the Premier League.

Hopefully, that changes next year, with United currently pushing hard to qualify for the Champions League.

Speaking to Wayne Rooney, Fernandes made it clear that it would have been an honour to have played with the former England international.

Fernandes said: “Of course. We know your work rate off the ball. People might say it’s too attacking, but when you have players in the No. 10 position who can defend like 8s or 6s, and who put in the effort to help the team, we wouldn’t have had any problem doing the dirty work.

“With the ball, I like to make runs, and you need players capable of making the right pass, and I think with you, I would have found myself one-on-one with the goalkeeper more than once.

“It would have been a privilege to play with you because I’ve watched you for many years.”
