Matheus Cunha can do something under Ruben Amorim that Man Utd attacker deeply lacked and left fans frustrated about – opinion

Matheus Cunha has already shown one impressive quality that Ruben Amorim will no doubt welcome at Manchester United after his arrival from Wolves this summer.

Ruben Amorim is a big fan of the 26-year-old former Wolves ace and Matheus Cunha was a key Manchester United target for the summer transfer window.

United landed Cunha from Wolves in June after the Brazil international’s £62.5m release clause was triggered, with the Red Devils wasting no time signing him.

Cunha impressed for Wolves last season and the United summer signing netted an impressive 17 times and registered six assists in 36 matches across all competitions.

The former Wolves forward is expected to play a key role in Amorim’s tactical system at United and could add much-needed firepower to the Red Devils’ attack.

Cunha inked a five-year deal with United after his deal was confirmed and the former Atletico Madrid player has linked up with his new teammates this summer.

Man Utd summer signing Matheus Cunha already showed his remarkable ability during one key moment at Wolves

Matheus Cunha made a real impact for Wolves in the 2023-24 Premier League campaign after his stunning brace against Nottingham Forest at City Ground.

The United attacker broke the deadlock in the Premier League tie in April 2024 with a magnificent solo strike after a superb solo run into the Nottingham Forest box.

Cunha carried the ball from the Wolves half before the ex-Atletico Madrid man was closed down by Andrew Omobamidele and Ryan Yates in the first half of the tie.

However, the Brazil forward turned the ball past both Andrew Omobamidele and Ryan Yates before Cunha unleashed a stunning strike past a helpless Matz Sels.

Forest rallied back after Morgan Gibbs-White cancelled out Cunha’s strike before half-time and then Danilo put Nuno Espirito Santo’s men 2-1 up in the second half.

However, Cunha made an impact for the second time after he bundled home a loose ball from a Wolves corner and snatched a Premier League point for his former side.

Speaking after the 2-2 draw at the time, former Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo singled out Cunha for what he did in Wolves’ solo opener in the Premier League tie.

“I think Matheus Cunha was the only player in the box and we had two players against him and we allowed him to turn,” he told BBC’s Match of the Day in 2024, as per BBC Sport.

“It is a bad approach.”

Matheus Cunha’s impact for Wolves vs Nottingham Forest is what Man Utd ace Alejandro Garnacho failed to do under Ruben Amorim

Cunha’s arrival at Old Trafford has already helped Ruben Amorim find the ‘right’ replacement for Alejandro Garnacho, who is tipped to leave the club this summer.

Alejandro Garnacho has been able to produce moments of magic for the Red Devils, including his remarkable bicycle kick for United in the 3-0 win over Everton in 2024.

However, far too often has the 21-year-old Spain-born attacker frustrated United fans with his inconsistency in the final third and questionable decision-making.

Cunha has proven his influence at Wolves time and time again and the United new boy could wield the same impact from the left-hand No 10 role under Amorim.

Garnacho’s erratic decision-making was visible during the 2024-25 campaign and the United winger has lacked the same confidence and vital experience of Cunha.
