Trabzonspor president makes Andre Onana transfer plea after incredible quarter-final display

Trabzonspor have made it clear they are keen to sign Andre Onana beyond this season.

It has been a season of change in terms of goalkeepers at Manchester United.

Altay Baynidir had a brief spell as first choice before Andre Onana joined Trabzonspor on loan. Then, it was only a matter of time before Senne Lammens took over the responsibilities as United’s starting goalkeeper.

That meant big changes for Onana, too. He went from being slated every week for underwhelming performances at United to competing for the Turkish Super Lig title with Trabzonspor.

Trabzonspor want to keep Andre Onana

With Lammens being a huge upgrade over Onana at United, the Cameroon international faces an uncertain future.

Does he remain at Trabzonspor, stay at United, or look for a transfer elsewhere in the summer?

Recent reports suggested Trabzonspor were unable to meet United’s demands to sign Onana, with the Red Devils eager to make as much money from the deal as possible.

It remains to be seen if United will compromise on a deal; however, with the Trabzonspor president making it clear they want to keep Onana beyond his loan deal.

Onana’s best moment for Trabzonspor came on Thursday night when he made three penalty shootout saves to help the team secure a place in the Turkish Cup semi-finals.

The United loanee helped Trabzonspor to a 3-1 win in the shootout, saving three of the four penalties he faced.

Speaking to reporters after the match, as cited by NTV Spor, Trabzonspor president ErtuÄŸrul DoÄŸan issued a transfer plea to Onana.

“Onana already has a clear career path,” DoÄŸan said.

“We love him. As I’ve said before, he has a specific plan for his career. If the conditions are right, we want him to stay.

“The final decision will be Onana’s.”

Andre Onana pushing for silverware at Trabzonspor

Trabzonspor will play Natura World Gençlerbirliği in the Turkish Cup semi-finals.

That means Onana has a chance to win a domestic cup on loan at Trabzonspor, who could also win the Turkish Super Lig title with a late push.

As things stand, Trabzonspor are third in the Turkish Super Lig, six points adrift of league leaders Galatasaray.

Trabzonspor have enjoyed good results with Onana between the posts. A title push at this stage would require a near perfect end to the season.
