Andre Onana is looking for a fresh start at Trabzonspor after two difficult seasons at Manchester United.
After establishing himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe, following successful spells at Ajax and Inter Milan, Andre Onana signed for Manchester United in 2023.
Erik ten Hag decided it was time to let David de Gea go before turning to Onana, whom he managed during his time at Ajax.
Fast forward two years, and Ruben Amorim has signed a new goalkeeper, only for Onana to join Trabzonspor on loan for the remainder of the season.
Altay Bayindir started the first three games of the 2025/26 season, and Senne Lammens has joined from Royal Antwerp. The writing was on the wall for Onana.

Andre Onana was urged by coach to leave Man Utd
Onana will instantly notice that there will be less pressure on him when he plays for Trabzonspor.
It’s completely different at United, where the entire world has you under a microscope. Every mistake goes viral on social media, and the newspapers are just as harsh. Lammens is the next goalkeeper who will have to deal with that, too.
That is why Cameroon’s goalkeeping coach and icon, Carlos Kameni, believes Onana was right to get out of Old Trafford and move to Trabzonspor.
Kameni revealed he advised Onana during the international.
“It’s a good choice. Andre was struggling at Manchester United,” Kameni said.
“Last season, he was heavily criticized, and since the start of the season, he’d barely played (one Cup match), and everyone, including him, understood that he was likely to spend a lot of time on the bench or in the stands.
“I told him he was right. It’s a good choice. It’s better to be a starter at a very good club in a good league than a substitute at a big club in a big league, right? In Turkey, he’ll certainly be watched, because he’s a very good goalkeeper, but I think he’ll be under a little less pressure than at Manchester United.”
Kameni makes Onana prediction
United will hope that Onana can resurrect his career in Turkey.
After costing United a whopping £47.2m in 2023, Ineos will be eager to recoup as much of that money as possible.
Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox learned how difficult it can be for United to sell players during the summer. They won’t want a repeat of that next year with Onana.
Kameni believes that Onana will be in demand when the transfer window opens next summer.
“Yes,” Onana said. “He hasn’t lost his qualities at Manchester United,” he said when asked if he’ll be back at a top-five European side next season.
“As can happen to all great athletes, he may experience a more complicated spell for a few months. André Onana is very professional, he remains a reliable player, and if he has a good season in Turkey, he’ll be in demand next summer.”
