Manchester United secured back-to-back wins at Old Trafford on Saturday evening, overcoming Chelsea 2-1 in a drama-filled outing.
Ruben Amorim will be delighted as he heads home on Saturday night, having watched his players fight for him and the badge against Chelsea.
After a week of speculation over his future, it was a much-needed victory for Manchester United, which moves the club up the table to within three points of second place.
Thanks to a first-half double, United managed to beat Chelsea 2-1, which could be the spark to finally find some momentum under Amorim.
Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes were United’s key men; however, looking beyond individual performances, Amorim will be delighted with the manner in which the entire squad performed.

Manchester United players show the aggression Ruben Amorim was asking for
Despite all the pressure being placed on Amorim by the press and fans, there seems to be no meltdown at Old Trafford.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe remains in support of Amorim, and so does the United team, as demonstrated by their actions against Chelsea. If the players had lost faith, the performance against Chelsea wouldn’t have had Amorim’s big demand.
Speaking ahead of the win over Chelsea, Amorim explained that he needed his team to show more aggression in both boxes.
“I think we are playing well until the boxes. Defending and attacking. We need to be more aggressive in the boxes. We need to be more clinical. The rest, I think, we are improving compared to last year.”
With this gauntlet set, Amorim will be pleased to have seen aggression from his team, and it led to the three points against the Blues.
Both Manchester United goals were a result of aggression in the box
The win over Chelsea feels like a watershed moment for Manchester United and Amorim, which might finally be the moment that ignites a run of form.
This season has been much better; there is no denying that, with United among the league leaders for expected goals, and only finishing, and as Amorim labelled it, aggressiveness in the box, hindering the team.
Against Chelsea, both Fernandes and Casemiro’s goals came as a result of United being intense in the box and piling pressure on.
The goals were not the prettiest United will ever score, but they showed that the team can win scrappily, which is equally as important.
As a result, this is a massive positive for Amorim.
