Manchester United walked out of Old Trafford on Saturday with all three points, beating a solid Sunderland side with relative comfort.
After a week of speculation over the future of Ruben Amorim, the Manchester United performance against Sunderland demonstrated that there is still a chance.
Amorim made some necessary changes, with Senne Lammens shining on his debut for United, arguably being the man of the match for his big saves.

Additionally, Amorim made the big decision to drop Matheus Cunha, although it was vindicated quickly with Mason Mount stepping up with a goal for United.
Benjamin Sesko grabbed his second goal of the season, scoring a poacher’s goal right in front of the goal, in an impressive, calm fashion.
However, there were also some top performers who haven’t caught the headlines.

Amad and Bryan Mbeumo developing deadly partnership at Manchester United
After an absence due to personal reasons last weekend, Amad returned for United against Sunderland, and he was electric on the right.
Combining with Bryan Mbeumo, the two right-sided wingers looked dangerous every time they linked up and got on the ball, both having very good efforts from range denied.
Amad was back in his usual wing-back role, and from here he created three chances, despite not getting an assist for his troubles.
Impressively, Amad completed 100 per cent of his passes against Sunderland, which is almost unprecedented.
- 90 minutes
- 2 shots
- 0.64 xG
- 38/38 passes
- 3 chances created
- 3 dribbles
- 62 touches
- 8 duels won
- 6 recoveries
In terms of a wing-back performance, this is arguably the gold standard, and it was all made possible thanks to one little change from Amorim.
Amad was staying wider and thrived as a result
The problem for a lot of this season on the right has been Amad and Mbeumo wanting to be in the same areas of the pitch, but this changed against Sunderland.
Amad sat extremely wide, making the Old Trafford pitch as big as possible, and Sunderland couldn’t cope.
When he got the ball, Amad had license to roam inside or down the line, but the fact that he waited out wide created more space for his teammates, and it worked a treat.
Amorim promised the system would change, and little things like this are easy fixes that can expedite United’s return to form.
