Sunderland wonderkid Chris Rigg has long been a name linked with joining Manchester United.
Seen widely as one of England’s hottest midfield prospects, Chris Rigg should be no stranger to Manchester United supporters.
Last year, it was reported that United were pushing hard to sign Rigg, viewing the Sunderland prodigy as being the ‘next Bryan Robson’, which is quite the billing.
It has been suggested that Rigg is destined to play for United, with his ability at such a young age leading to a belief that he could be the next big England starlet to emerge out of the Championship.

Ahead of Sunderland’s trip to Old Trafford, United in Focus understands via Graeme Bailey that Rigg remains on United’s radar as he impresses in the Premier League.
“Chris Rigg is a player that remains on Manchester United’s radar, and a summer bid was considered, but they had other issues squad-wise to sort out.
“Rigg endured a tough end to last season and signed a new deal, but already he is progressing – he is seeing regular Premier League minutes and that is only going to benefit him this term. He and his representatives were never pushing massively for a summer move; it was always the belief that he needed a little more time to progress on Wearside.
“But United are still fully aware of him, like United – we should all keep a close eye on him.”
United saw Rigg as a generational talent in advance of the summer transfer window, before a deal ultimately failed to come to fruition.
Chris Rigg has an Old Trafford audition on Sunday
If United had signed Rigg in the summer, he would have arrived not quite ready for the step-up and likely gotten limited minutes, being behind Kobbie Mainoo even in the pecking order.
Instead, Sunderland’s promotion gave Rigg the chance to gain Premier League experience in a familiar setting, and he will be a much better player for it.
Rigg has been getting regular minutes for Sunderland over the past few weeks, and he is likely to feature to some degree at Old Trafford.
Given the historical interest and the player remaining on the radar, Rigg might have a chance to play himself right back into the forefront of United minds this weekend.
