Senne Lammens has been a revelation for Manchester United this season, but he’s not enjoying everything about the Premier League.
It has been a brilliant start to life in the Manchester United net for the Belgian Senne Lammens, as he has offered a much-needed upgrade on Altay Bayindir.
United fans have labelled Lammens as the new Peter Schmeichel already, with his reliable shot-stopping and aerial strength being a breath of fresh air from recent years.
Lammens even passed the Anfield test, making crucial interventions as United claimed a historic 2-1 win after almost a decade without winning in the fixture.
However, it has not all been smooth sailing for Lammens.

What Senne Lammens really doesn’t like about Premier League referees
There was always going to be a learning curve to some degree, with Lammens coming from the Belgian league, which is notoriously the most physical in the world, and therefore, he has been afforded some grace.
But Lammens has been the goalkeeper United have missed over the past few years, despite his shock over how much contact attackers get away with by the referees.
Now, speaking to Belgian outlet Sporza, Lammens has named that as the biggest difference in the Premier League.
“The biggest difference? Set-pieces,” Lammens answers convincingly. “I’ve never seen people get away with the things they do to goalkeepers. It’s sometimes a war in the small five-meter box.”
“They grab you, block you, they do all sorts of things. And usually, the refs let the game continue. That’s the game in the Premier League.”
“You have to adapt to that and train for it, but it’s ____ for every goalkeeper”.
He may complain, but Lammens has been pretty flawless in these scenarios so far at United.
Senne Lammens’ stats for Manchester United prove he is world-class in the making
When Lammens arrived at United, there was lots of excitement, with fans well versed on how brilliant he was in Belgium. However, it was a shock when Amorim opted to continue with Bayindir initially.
But when Lammens got his chance, he grabbed it and he hasn’t looked back, as his stats this season prove.
- 3 games
- 79 per cent save rate
- 3.7 saves per game
- 1.97 goals prevented
- 54 touches per game
- 100 per cent of duels won
- 1.67 high claims per game
- 0 errors leading to goal
Lammens is still only 23, far from the prime years of a goalkeeper, and his start at United makes it crystal clear that he is a future ‘best in the world’ candidate.
His transformational impact at United should not go unnoticed amid the massive and justified hype around Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Matheus Cunha. United have found the number one for the next years.
