Marcus Rashford beats Declan Rice and Eberechi Eze in latest England training test

There was only one winner when Marcus Rashford came up against several England teammates during a shooting challenge in training.

Marcus Rashford may be on loan at Barcelona, but he is the only current Manchester United player part of the latest England squad for the October internationals.

That is because Thomas Tuchel has continued to overlook United players like Harry Maguire, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo.

All those players can do is work harder on improving their performances, or, in Mainoo’s case, try to find a way into Ruben Amorim’s line-up.

Meanwhile, Rashford is enjoying life at Barcelona and will likely be under consideration for a World Cup call-up. That was in serious doubt before Tuchel gave Rashford another chance on the international stage after replacing Gareth Southgate as England manager.

Marcus Rashford wins England shooting challenge

Rashford stopped performing at a high level for United and his consistency worsened, particularly over the past three years.

The fact he is now performing better at Barcelona doesn’t change that. It’s a different league with completely different demands.

It is also important to acknowledge Amorim’s strict approach to his preferred 3-4-2-1 system, and he didn’t seem to fancy Rashford when the England international was among his armour.

However, that has not stopped Rashford from kicking on in an attempt to revive his career elsewhere.

Loan spells at Aston Villa and now Barcelona have helped Rashford earn a place back in the England squad.

With that, he’s come out on top of a recent shooting practice drill, which involved the likes of Arsenal’s Declan Rice and Eberechi Eze and Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon.

These are all further signs that Rashford is in a better frame of mind, which can only be a positive thing.

It’s a shame things didn’t work out for him at United in the end because it seems extremely unlikely that he has a future at Old Trafford under Amorim.

Marcus Rashford’s record for England

Rashford has represented the Three Lions at senior level 64 times, scoring 18 goals.

The 27-year-old has also represented England at a number of different youth levels – from under-16 right up to under-21.

The United loanee will have aspirations of adding another World Cup finals to his list of achievements as a professional footballer.

It will come as a major milestone because it wasn’t long ago that Rashford was out of the picture with the England national team.
