Man United have already figured out how to afford £65m Antoine Semenyo deal in January

Antoine Semenyo has emerged as a target for Manchester United in 2026 but he won’t come cheap.

So far in the 2025/26 Premier League season, Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo has been one of the standout performers.

Journalist David Ornstein revealed that Semenyo has a £65m release clause active in January, and Manchester United are just one of several clubs eyeing a deal.

Semenyo has stayed quiet on links to United, but the fact that he wanted a release clause in his contract suggests he wants to take a step up.

Who is your dream Manchester United signing in 2026?

United will be looking to strengthen in the January transfer window and the two top priorities will be at wing-back and in central midfield. Expect United to be involved in the race for Semenyo’s signature, and Ineos already have a way to fund the deal.

Man United can fast-track two deals to afford Antoine Semenyo

United spent £232m in the summer on five new signings as Ineos vowed to back Amorim in his first full season in charge.

The budget could be much tighter in January, but Ineos have opportunities to bring cash into the club through Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund.

Rashford is on loan at Barcelona this season, while Hojlund joined Napoli. Both players have made a bright start at their new clubs, and both have buy options attached to their deals.

Interestingly, United are open to negotiating early deals for Rashford and Hojlund, to bring forward their permanent exits to January.

Barcelona and Napoli are both keen to get the deals done quickly, and that would provide an injection of cash to United for their 2025/26 accounts.

It seems increasingly likely that Semenyo will leave Bournemouth in January, so if United want to sign the 25-year-old star, then they will need to be able to financially compete.

How much Man United will earn from Rashford and Hojlund

Barcelona are expected to sign Rashford permanently in 2026, and it is in the best interest of all parties to get it done in January.

There is a £26m buy option for Rashford attached to his loan deal, but Barcelona have enquired about slashing the price. United have ruled that out, so expect any January deal to be done around the £26m mark.

Hojlund has a £38m buy obligation at Napoli if the Serie A giants qualify for the Champions League. They are currently fourth in the league table, and are therefore on track to achieve that.

Antonio Conte is impressed by Hojlund, and a permanent deal is on the cards. If United are able to bring both deals forward to January, that would potentially provide a £64m boost to the January budget.

On top of United’s plan to save £52m in wages, it should be enough to go and sign Semenyo.
