Matheus Cunha achieved personal best at Man United despite drawing to Nottingham Forest

Matheus Cunha did not score or assist in Manchester United’s draw with Nottingham Forest, but he did set a new personal record.

Manchester United drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest, ending a run of three consecutive Premier League victories.

On his one-year anniversary as head coach, Ruben Amorim named an unchanged XI for the first time, including Matheus Cunha on the left of a front three.

Cunha scored his first United goal against Brighton last week and travelled to the City Ground full of confidence. But Cunha has a terrible record against Forest and, unfortunately, that didn’t end on Saturday.

United fans were unimpressed by Cunha against Forest, but there were still several positives about his performance.

Matheus Cunha continues to create for Man United

In what has been a bright start to the season, Cunha is already topping Premier League charts despite having only scored once.

Cunha is yet to register an assist, but he has still been a creative catalyst for United this season.

As per SofaScore, Cunha made four key passes against Forest – the highest number he has recorded in a single match this season.

Categorised as a pass that leads directly to a teammate’s shot, it proves that Cunha is making things happen in the final third without getting his deserved reward.

It didn’t help Cunha that Benjamin Sesko was in poor form against Forest, missing a handful of chances in front of goal.

But there are promising signs that assists will eventually start flowing for the Brazilian.

Matheus Cunha stats for Man United vs Nottingham Forest

It was Cunha’s compatriot Casemiro who opened the scoring for United against Forest, before Amad Diallo scored the second to salvage a point.

United have improved at set pieces, and it was corners that led to both goals at the City Ground.

Breaking down Forest’s well-organised defence under Sean Dyche proved much more difficult. Cunha had very little space to operate in, so his impact was limited.

  • 70 touches
  • 2 shots
  • 3 dribbles (60% success)

  • 11 duels won
  • 92% passing accuracy

Cunha was still an attacking outlet, but United lacked ruthlessness in the box. Next up is a trip to Tottenham and Cunha should have more space to make things happen for the Red Devils.
