Phil Jones reacts to ‘pictures’ of Ruben Amorim favourite who ‘looks incredible,’ Man Utd ace has blown him away

Phil Jones has revealed what he has seen from a Manchester United fan-favourite under Ruben Amorim after the player’s difficult period at Old Trafford.

The 33-year-old former Manchester United defender appeared on the first episode of the Red Devils’ ‘Inside Carrington’ podcast, which dropped on Wednesday.

Inside Carrington saw the appearance of United director of football Jason Wilcox, with MUTV pundit Liam Bradford on the podcast alongside Phil Jones.

Manchester United’s official website confirmed that the podcast, which is hosted by Helen Evans, will feature “players, managers, staff, legends and executive leadership.”

Inside Carrington will be released on a “weekly basis” and United have said that the podcast will “provide invaluable insights” from Jones in his post-playing career.

Phil Jones on what Lisandro Martinez has shown during the Man Utd defender’s knee injury

Lisandro Martinez has been on the sideline since the 2024-25 campaign and the Manchester United star is slowly inching toward his long-awaited Old Trafford return.

The 27-year-old sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his knee back in February and was stretchered off in United’s Premier League loss to Crystal Palace.

Martinez missed the second half of the 2024-25 Premier League season and has been out of action in the opening months of the 2025-26 campaign.

However, the Red Devils received a major boost in late October after United confirmed that Martinez had finally returned to first-team training with the squad.

Phil Jones has now admitted that the World Cup-winning Argentine caught his eye for his “incredible” physique during Martinez’s behind-the-scenes work at United.

Poll: Who should United start at left wing-back away at Tottenham?

“Yeah, I mean, it can be a dark place at times, especially when you’re out for that longer period of time,” he said.

“And I went through it myself, and it’s difficult to see the players going out to train every day when you’re in the gym and you’re just starting your rehabilitation program.

“And it’s very, very difficult to deal with. And you have to have the right support network around you. But he looks incredible for physique at the minute with the pictures you’ve seen.

“And I’m sure he’s ready. I’m sure he’s worked so hard to get back. And ACL is always a difficult one to come back from.”

Phil Jones on Lisandro Martinez’s return for Man Utd and what Ruben Amorim will do

Lisandro Martinez underwent knee surgery after his ACL injury and the United star had been placed on his own individual training programme in the aftermath.

The ex-Ajax defender has been a big miss for the Red Devils in the backline, with Ruben Amorim recently talking up Martinez’s importance in his first-team squad.

“Because you know, you hear people about either redoing it [the ACL injury] because they come back too soon, or doing the other one because [of] the compensating,” Jones continued.

Jones added that Martinez will have to be patient before he makes his return from injury and he has tipped Amorim to carefully phase the player’s involvement in his team.

“So, you have to be really, really focused and honed in on how you managed those injuries. And you know, he’s done incredibly well to get back,” he explained.

“So, he just needs to bide his time a little bit longer. But I’m sure the manager will manage that.”

United manager Amorim has not confirmed an exact time frame for when Martinez will make his hotly anticipated return for the Red Devils in the 2025-26 campaign.
