Manchester United are in the market for a central midfielder and have previously shown interest in Tottenham star Lucas Bergvall.
Back in 2022, Manchester United took Lucas Bergvall on trial but turned down the opportunity to sign the Swedish midfielder.
Bergvall impressed on a second trial for the club years later, but Brexit rules didn’t allow United to sign U18 players from outside the UK.
United continued to scout Bergvall, but he ended up making a move to Tottenham in 2024 for £8.5 million.
Since his move to North London, Bergvall has impressed United fans, and with Spurs now being dragged into a relegation fight, he could be available in the summer.

Liverpool interest in Lucas Bergvall but Man United have advantage
According to Swedish outlet Fotboll Direkt, Liverpool have been tracking Bergvall at Tottenham ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window.
The report adds that Spurs have set an enticing price tag of £57 million for the 20-year-old star.
United missing out on Bergvall was a mistake, but the recruitment team at Old Trafford could still bring him to Manchester years later and land a blow on Liverpool in the process.
It is public knowledge that Bergvall is a boyhood United supporter, which could give the Red Devils a key advantage to securing a deal this summer.
Positives and negatives to Man United signing Lucas Bergvall
There is no denying that Bergvall is a promising talent and one of the few players that Spurs fans have raved about within their squad this season.
But there are a few concerns that United will have about the Swedish star. One is his fitness record. Bergvall is yet to play a full 90-minute match for Tottenham in the 2025/26 Premier League season, and he has missed several matches with separate groin and ankle injuries.
There may also be a concern about Bergvall’s physicality in the Premier League, but speaking to Aftonbladet in 2024, he revealed that he has been working on bulking up.
Bergvall certainly has the tenacity and intensity to play in the Premier League and be a potential Casemiro replacement, and in possession, he is technically gifted.
But WhoScored list concentration and finishing as two of Bergvall’s biggest weaknesses.
At 20 years old, Ineos would be buying a future superstar, but it is a huge gamble to make with a £57 million transfer fee, especially when United need a ready-made product for 2026/27.
