Man Utd vs Crystal Palace: Important selection decisions, injury latest, manager battle and expected XI

Manchester United are in action against Crystal Palace in the next fixture.

After the win over Everton, Manchester United are high in confidence and looking to keep up momentum. Here is everything fans need to know ahead of the upcoming game.

Kick-off, TV channel

Manchester United host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday March 1 at 2pm. UK viewers can watch the fixture on Sky Sports.

The match was moved from the Saturday because the visitors are played in the Europa Conference League on Thursday February 26, in a play-off second-leg at home against Bosnian side Zrinjski Mostar.

Manchester United’s form

Manchester United are unbeaten in the last 10 Premier League games. Michael Carrick has been in charge of six of those, winning five. He has won three of three home fixtures.

Crystal Palace have had a bumpy start to 2026 with an FA Cup exit to Macclesfield. In the Premier League their form is patchy but they have managed to win two of their last three games – but they did lose recently to relegation-bound Burnley.

In comparison to United, they have won two out of the last six and gained seven points, while United have picked up 16.

Champions League race

Two rivals play before Manchester United, with Aston Villa visiting bottom club Wolves on Friday night, with a chance to extend their three-point gap.

Liverpool host West Ham on Saturday, and can draw level with United on points.

United can again extend that lead and close the gap on Villa by beating Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

The most intriguing game of the weekend comes in the 4.30pm kick-off when Arsenal host Chelsea.

Injury latest

Manchester United have three players out with extended injuries at present. Matthijs de Ligt, Patrick Dorgu and Mason Mount have all sat out recent games.

Bryan Mbeumo limped off at the end of United’s win over Everton, but he is expected to be fit and has been pictured in training.

Lisandro Martinez missed the game against Everton. His status for the Palace game has not yet been confirmed.

Selection decisions

Michael Carrick has shown a preference for sticking with the same team unless he is forced into making a change.

Benjamin Sesko is doing his best to change his mind, scoring a goal every 46 minutes in his last six appearances.

If Sesko does start, Michael Carrick has to decide who misses out. Gary Neville says he believes Amad could be dropped.

The other big decision is at centre-back. Leny Yoro was excellent vs Everton and could keep his place even if Martinez is passed fit.

Predicted XI: Lammens; Dalot, Yoro, Maguire, Shaw; Casemiro, Mainoo, Fernandes; Cunha, Mbeumo, Sesko

Manager battle

The game pits Michael Carrick up against Oliver Glasner, a manager who is confirmed to be leaving Crystal Palace at the end of the season.

Glasner was touted as a Manchester United manager candidate earlier this season, but it is hard to fathom this being realistic now.

Palace’s form has dropped off, while United have moved away from a three-at-the-back system used by Glasner. It makes no sense to revert to this.

Meanwhile the way Glasner has clashed with Palace’s board in recent weeks is unlikely to appeal to United’s hierarchy.

Last two games vs Palace

Manchester United won the last game away at Palace with a 2-1 comeback victory at Selhurst Park, the club’s first win there since 2020.

Palace did the double over United last season, winning 2-0 at Old Trafford a year ago in a match where Ruben Amorim started Kobbie Mainoo at striker.

The game also saw Lisandro Martinez tear his ACL.
