Why Sekou Kone's blow with Lausanne might be blessing in disguise for his Man Utd career - Opinion

Earlier this month, Sekou Kone joined Lausanne on loan from Manchester United, and it has since been a bit of a disaster. But there might be a hidden silver lining for Ineos.

There was plenty of excitement when Sekou Kone made the move to Ineos-owned Lausanne, with the anticipation that he would be treated favourably and get plenty of playing opportunities.

It certainly looked headed this way when Kone had impressed Lausanne coaches before making the move to Switzerland on loan official.

However, soon after joining, it’s all looking less positive after Kone was left out of Lausanne’s Conference League squad.

This snub unsurprisingly left plenty of fans baffled at why United would stand for this when he is supposed to be heading there to play football.

Kone has only made one appearance since the move, and so concerns are justified; however, Ineos won’t be worried, because there is actually a silver lining to all of this.

Kone won’t have gone there thinking it would be easy and that Lausanne would have to play him, given the Ineos link, and this snubbing will confirm to him that he is going to need to work harder than ever to be part of their first team.

One factor for the absence of Kone is potentially that he has not played a lot of football in the past eight months, so he will be incredibly rusty, which could see Lausanne feel he’s better working up fitness in training before playing, with plenty of league games to go.

Lausanne are in a fight right now in the middle of the Swiss Super League, and so there are no free passes for young players regardless of who they are.

Kone will have to fight to earn his place, but the good part is that if he does this, the Malian youth talent will be so much better as a result.

Sekou Kone’s next few months will either make or break him at United

There remains really high hopes for Kone’s future at United; however, ultimately, when a player is talented enough, it comes down to their determination to be great.

This is where Kone is at right now. We know he is good enough in terms of his ability with and without the ball, but to play for United, it also requires the mental side, hard work, and commitment.

Responding to setbacks is part of this. Kone needs to be ready and raring to make Lausanne regret this decision and be undeniable in his midfield performances to the point he becomes a plausible option for United next season.

He is absolutely capable, but we now need him to do it and make this blow a blessing in disguise, fighting harder than ever for his spot.
