Benjamin Sesko scored again, but Man Utd teammate's reaction to another moment shows he shouldn't start

Benjamin Sesko was off the bench against Aston Villa to score again, proving his value as a super sub for Manchester United.

Sunday saw Manchester United beat Aston Villa 3-1, a convincing victory that solidifies Michael Carrick’s hopes of leading the club back to the Champions League.

Casemiro and Matheus Cunha struck first, before Benjamin Sesko wrapped up the scoring from the bench.

Sesko showed grit, desire, and awareness to latch onto a loose ball and score an ugly goal, which is a vital part of being a striker. However, despite this goal, minutes later, he left Bruno Fernandes frustrated.

Benjamin Sesko left Bruno Fernandes frustrated after scoring for Manchester United

Bruno Fernandes got two assists against Villa, taking him into the club history books but also narrowing the gap to becoming the Premier League’s all-time best over a season.

But Fernandes will feel an additional assist eluded him against Villa.

This was when Fernandes picked another delightful through-ball pass to Sesko, who made a brilliant run to meet the pass, and it looked like another big chance for United to get a fourth.

However, Sesko instead wasted the opportunity, with a ball that was neither a shot nor a pass to Amad, as it went behind for a goal kick.

After this, Fernandes stood on the halfway line and let Sesko know he should have done better with this chance. Fernandes’ face had shock and frustration plastered on it.

It was a baffling moment from Sesko, who can be excellent in one attack and frustrating in the next.

Sesko moment shows why he is better as a super sub right now

Sesko’s goal record in 2026 is hard to dispute, as he has become inevitable, and he cannot stop scoring. But Michael Carrick favours him as a super sub for a reason.

This moment for Sesko epitomised where he is right now as a player.

He is a brilliant goal scorer from inside the box, but his decision-making and focus in other parts of the pitch are why Carrick will prefer Bryan Mbeumo from the start.

In this instance, Sesko had Cunha’s example to follow and was away from the defender; all he had to do was run and drive towards the goal. But instead, he played the ball from a silly location.

Moments after this, Fernandes did take Sesko aside to explain and advise how he should have handled the chance. This shows the captain’s value and why Sesko will be so much better in the future.
