In-form Man Utd ace snubbed from BBC Team of the Week as 'leader' Bruno Fernandes is only Red Devils player picked

Troy Deeney completely snubbed Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko from his BBC Sport Premier League Team of the Week and put his full focus on Bruno Fernandes instead.

Benjamin Sesko made a major impact in Manchester United’s 2-1 comeback win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The 22-year-old Slovenian forward started his first match under Michael Carrick’s interim head coach reign and Sesko fired Man Utd into the lead over Crystal Palace.

Bruno Fernandes whipped in a superb cross from the right and Sesko was too powerful for Jaydee Canvot, who was tasked with marking the United striker.

Sesko connected with Fernandes’ sensational pass and the Slovenia international turned a powerful low header into the corner of Dean Henderson’s net.

Benjamin Sesko made the difference for Man Utd vs Crystal Palace, but Troy Deeney was more impressed with Bruno Fernandes

Before Bruno Fernandes’ assist in the second half, the 31-year-old Manchester United captain added his name to the scoresheet against 10-man Crystal Palace.

Fernandes stepped up for the Red Devils’ penalty after Maxence Lacroix was sent off and the United midfielder sent Dean Henderson the wrong way with a cool finish.

Speaking in his BBC Sport column, Troy Deeney praised Fernandes and picked him for his Team of the Week ahead of the likes of Man Utd striker Benjamin Sesko.

“Bruno, Bruno, Bruno. Every season, people write off his importance to Manchester United,” he said.

“Year after year, he reminds you why he’s the captain and leader of the team. It was a wonder ball in for the winner and his penalty was as calm as ever.”

Michael Carrick praises Benjamin Sesko after the Man Utd striker’s first Premier League start under him

Sesko has been a key substitute for Michael Carrick in recent weeks and the Slovenia international earned high praise for his first start under the United legend.

“Absolutely delighted for Ben,” Carrick said after the match, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“It’s certainly not been a headache; it’s not been a big drama. He’s had a huge impact and he’s making big improvements.

“A little bit is getting used to what it is like to be here and the feelings and what it means to play. Things that we can take for granted at times.

“He’s desperate to do well, he works so hard, he’s an absolute pleasure to work with.

“Today, he started and it was an absolutely fantastic goal; he’s bringing an awful lot.”

Sesko played 75 minutes of Sunday’s 2-1 Premier League win at Old Trafford before the Man Utd summer signing made way for Red Devils winger Amad Diallo.
