Morgan Rogers was the difference-maker between Manchester United and Aston Villa’s last Premier League encounter in 2025 ahead of Sunday’s Old Trafford clash.
The 23-year-old England international broke the deadlock in the 45th minute at Villa Park before Matheus Cunha netted an equaliser for the Red Devils before half-time.
However, Morgan Rogers would come back to haunt the Red Devils in the second half and completed his brace in Aston Villa’s 2-1 win over Manchester United.
Following Villa’s Premier League result over United last December, United In Focus has now looked at four expectations for the upcoming match at Old Trafford.

1. Michael Carrick has Unai Emery’s ‘number’ on the day for Man Utd’s huge Premier League showdown with Aston Villa
The entire optics have changed since the Red Devils last crossed paths with Unai Emery’s Aston Villa side in the Premier League in the tail end of 2025.
Ruben Amorim has been sacked as Man Utd manager and Red Devils boss Michael Carrick has been installed as interim head coach until the end of the season.
Manchester United legend Michael Carrick has already defied expectations after leading the Red Devils to six wins from eight Premier League matches so far.
Carrick has claimed bragging rights over Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and Unai Emery could be next up on his hit list.

2. Senne Lammens has his Man Utd ‘revenge’ on Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers
Senne Lammens was between the sticks when Morgan Rogers scored his double to seal Villa’s Premier League win over Ruben Amorim’s United side at Villa Park.
The 23-year-old Belgium international had a back three ahead of him due to Amorim’s contentious Man Utd tactical system being in place for the match.
Not only have the Red Devils pivoted away from Amorim’s tactics with Michael Carrick’s appointment, but Lammens has also been growing in serious confidence.
Lammens’ continued improvement between the sticks, coupled with the four-man backline, could pose a real challenge for Rogers and Co on Sunday afternoon.

3. Man Utd vs Aston Villa: Champions League ‘decider’ could finally happen with the Premier League outcome
United are fourth in the Premier League table and Aston Villa are third ahead of their upcoming encounter, with both sides level on points after 29 matches played.
There would still be eight Premier League matches left after Carrick’s men clash with Emery’s side, but this showdown is pivotal for Champions League qualification.
United’s incredible turnaround in form under Carrick has catapulted the Red Devils straight into the Premier League top-four picture since his January appointment.
The Red Devils or Villa could open a three-point margin over one another if either side claims a win and that would be enough of a momentum boost going forward.
4. Leny Yoro becomes Morgan Rogers’ kryptonite in the Aston Villa match and the Man Utd star finally shines again
Yoro played 84 minutes in the backline for the Villa defeat last December before he was withdrawn for Shea Lacey in the dying stages of the Premier League match.
The 20-year-old Frenchman has started the Red Devils’ last three Premier League fixtures and completed the full 90 minutes under interim head coach Carrick.
Carrick has turned to Leny Yoro amid Lisandro Martinez’s absence and the United centre-back has impressed in parts amid a mixed 2025-26 season for his form.
With three consistent Premier League matches under his belt, the crucial Villa match on Sunday could be the spark for Yoro to step up in a major and meaningful way.
