Manchester United loanee Rasmus Hojlund has confirmed his departure.
After bouncing back from a shock defeat to Bologna, Napoli secured Champions League qualification for 2026/27 with a 3-0 win away at Pisa.
The icing on the cake was Rasmus Hojlund scoring his first goal since the start of March, netting the third goal in injury time.
Napoli’s Champions League qualification means they have activated the clause to purchase Hojlund permanently.
The deal will formally complete before the end of June, with United set to net £38 million.
Rasmus Hojlund’s message
Rasmus Hojlund has confirmed his Manchester United departure, noting that he is now officially a Napoli player.
He admits that the feeling is bittersweet, having grown up with dreams of playing for Manchester United.
He wrote on Instagram: “This goal felt symbolic because it means two things. We now secured Champions League with Napoli, which means because of my contract I’m now officially a Napoli player and I’m saying goodbye to Manchester United.
“That feels weird, because for the past year I already feel like a Napoli player. The way you fans supported me, made me feel like home and let me find my confidence again is something I’m so grateful for.
“To say goodbye to Manchester United is something that kinda feels emotional too. My childhood dream came true by playing at Old Trafford in a red jersey.
“So the goal today symbolizes a new confident start, in which I will give everything for the time ahead to Napoli, and a thank you to all the fans, players and staff of Manchester United who made the dream I had as a kid come true.
“It’s time for new dreams, so let’s chase them.”
Hojlund’s goal tally at Napoli
Rasmus Hojlund had struggled in recent weeks, failing to land a shot on target in his past six matches – a stat the Italian media described as ‘chilling’.
Antonio Conte defended the striker, pointing out that he has been leading the line for Napoli all by himself.
Hojlund’s goal was a significant one, it took him up to 11 league goals for the season, a personal best.
In all competitions the Dane has scored 15 goals in 43 games.
