Ethan Ennis buy-back clause and sell-on fee included in sale, Man Utd first only wanted loan deal

Manchester United have included a buy-back clause and a sell-on fee in Ethan Ennis’ departure.

Ethan Ennis has left Manchester United on a permanent deal to sign with Stockport County on a three-year contract.

United sold Ennis for a six-figure fee that is officially undisclosed. Under the terms of the deal, United have included important clauses.

The terms of the sale include:

The terms of the sale were reported first via Nathan Salt.

Manchester United agreed similar terms with Ethan Williams’ sale to Peterborough United last week, and Radek Vitek’s sale to Middlesbrough.

Manchester United wanted Ethan Ennis loan

Stockport’s recruitment chief Jonathan Smith told their club media that Manchester United originally proposed a loan move for Ethan Ennis.

He explained: “Ethan was initially made available to us on a loan basis, so to be able to turn that into a permanent deal feels like a real coup for the club.

“We’ve had a number of conversations with him and, a few weeks ago, Ethan came to the Preston game with me so he could see first-hand our style, structure and the environment we’re creating here.”

Now 21, Ennis needs to kick on with his career and there was no pathway for him at Manchester United.

He lost a year of his career due to an ACL injury suffered in 2022, one season after he joined United from Liverpool.

Ennis has done well to get back on track. His loan spell last season at Fleetwood Town was particularly impressive, where he made 46 appearances.

The lively winger scored six goals and provided eight assists during his spell.

Now he has a new home at Stockport County, Ennis’ progress will be worth watching. It is certainly possible that United do decide to activate his buy-back clause in the future.
