Michael Carrick was forced to watch on from the dugout at the MKM Stadium after Hull City sealed a stunning 2-0 win over Manchester United at the weekend.
United were second best on the day and the Red Devils suffered an early setback in their new season under Michael Carrick, who must find a way to rally back.

David de Gea wasted no time taking to social media and told United fans the most important thing to put into perspective after the club’s shock defeat to Hull City.
“It’s not how it starts, it’s how it ends,” the Fiorentina shot-stopper wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
2. Marcus Rashford — how many days since his last competitive Man Utd appearance
Marcus Rashford did show up against Hull City and the 28-year-old marked how many days had passed since his last major Man Utd match back in 2024.
“After 618 days, I’m back playing with United,” he wrote on Instagram.
“I wish the result were better, but it’s something we can improve on.”

Rio Ferdinand perfectly encapsulated why it was wrong for so many people to write off the Hull City encounter as an easy ‘three-pointer’ for Michael Carrick’s men.

Luke Shaw dropped too deep during Hull City’s free-kick set-piece and the veteran Man Utd player played Nobel Mendy onside before the Red Devils conceded.
Speaking on Hull City’s second against United and Luke Shaw’s defending, Peter Schmeichel told Premier League Productions: “I picked on Luke Shaw. Luke Shaw is two yards behind everyone else, playing everyone else onside.
“He shouldn’t be there. He fell for the dummy. If he stayed up there, he would be either offside or it would have gone out for a goal kick.”
As per Goal, the United legend added: “That’s a disappointment for me, that an experienced team like that makes mistakes like that.”
5. Gary Neville — giving Hull City the praise that they deserved against Man Utd
While the Red Devils were expected to beat Hull City on Saturday, even United fans would have to admit that the Tigers showed up and delivered with their display.

Just like Peter Schmeichel, Wayne Rooney pulled no punches towards former Man Utd and England teammate Luke Shaw after the Hull City match on Saturday.
“This is schoolboy defending from Luke Shaw,” he said on BBC’s Match of the Day.
“Man United had a good line, Hull would have been waiting for this all day, Luke Shaw drops in, he’s five yards behind his back line and if the ball is good enough, which it was, it’s impossible to stop.”
