Manchester United will have to work out a way to stop Pascal Gross from haunting them again for Wednesday evening’s Carabao Cup clash against Brighton.
The Red Devils will begin their League Cup campaign in the third round at Old Trafford and Pascal Gross has a history of causing problems for Manchester United.
Gross is Brighton’s best scorer against United after the 35-year-old German midfielder, who can also play as a full-back, has netted seven times for his side.
The Seagulls star has made 17 appearances in all competitions against United across his two spells for Brighton ahead of the upcoming Carabao Cup fixture.

Pascal Gross, who returned to the Amex in January, is the active player who has scored the most times when Manchester United and Brighton have met in matches.
According to Transfermarkt, Bruno Fernandes is second in the top scorers’ chart after the Man Utd skipper has scored six times in 15 matches against the Seagulls.
Only one behind Bruno Fernandes in the goalscoring list is former United striker Danny Welbeck, who was recently at Brighton before his club exit in the summer.
Danny Welbeck, who was a former United youth academy product, completed a stunning move to Premier League side Chelsea for an undisclosed fee in August.
Brighton lost one of their key goalscoring threats against United after Welbeck made the switch to Stamford Bridge, following his strong 2025-26 season at the Amex.
Welbeck’s goalscoring record against United in the head-to-head meetings featuring Brighton would have been a concern for Michael Carrick before his summer move.
However, the 35-year-old former England international’s absence from Wednesday’s fixture means that United can put more attention on nullifying Pascal Gross instead.
Gross has made six appearances for Brighton this season and the Germany international has netted two times and registered three assists for his side so far.
Michael Carrick is under pressure to ensure that the Red Devils remain in the Carabao Cup and United bounce back from their 1-0 Manchester City defeat.
The 45-year-old United manager can breathe a sigh of relief that former Red Devils teammate Welbeck won’t be a concern for Wednesday’s third-round clash.
