Andre Onana repeats one of his worst Manchester United moments with error for Trabzonspor

Andre Onana’s loan spell at Trabzonspor has taken an unwelcome twist.

If you bear to re-live an unhappy part of Manchester United’s recent history, we suggest you check out ‘the worst 10 Andre Onana mistakes‘.

The goalkeeper was Erik ten Hag’s handpicked replacement for David de Gea, at a whopping £47 million. He repaid United by playing a key role in Champions League group stage elimination with a series of mistakes.

One of Onana’s many errors was when he conceded a goal directly from a corner against Wolves on Boxing Day 2024. Manchester United lost the game 1-0, with Matheus Cunha’s corner floating over his head into the net.

Now he’s done it again. While playing for Trabzonspor in the Europa Conference League, he conceded directly from a corner against Finnish side KuPS.

Andre Onana mistake not costly

The one saving grace for Andre Onana in this game was that his error was not costly. Trabzonspor were able to win the game 4-2.

The victory follows their strong domestic form, where they are only three points off the top of the Turkish Super Lig, with Galatasaray in first.

Onana is still on loan after Trabzonspor refused to pay a permanent fee for the goalkeeper in the summer.

United decided their preference was to ship him out on loan quickly, rather than have him report for pre-season with the club, and risk being stuck with him.

His contract at United runs until 2028. This latest error won’t help efforts to try and offload him next summer.
