Manchester United’s players will snap back into action this weekend, and fans are eagerly anticipating the return of club football.
United return with a home fixture against Tottenham. While the break may have helped take a little pressure off of manager Michael Carrick, he needs his players to deliver.
The team has only earned five points from five games, an abject return that has left us down in 12th place in the Premier League.
The poor results left fans feeling deflated, but former United midfielder Quinton Fortune believes there are mitigating circumstances. Picking out Benjamin Sesko, Amad, and Carlos Baleba, Fortune argues that the trio will make a significant difference to the team.
Speaking to Boyle Sports, Fortune said: “Not having your main striker at the start of the season was tough, and starting the way they did against Hull was unexpected.
“The last couple of games have been tricky. They brought in Baleba, so we’re waiting for him to reach full fitness. When everyone is fit, Amad, Baleba and Sesko, you look at the team and see immense potential.”
The international break has provided extra time for each of Sesko, Amad and Baleba to get fit, although clarification is expected on their fitness ahead of the upcoming Spurs game.
Baleba is the closest, featuring in a friendly match against Lausanne and also named on the bench against Fulham. He will be looking to make his debut for United, and could be in line to start against Fulham.
Fortune expects improvement
While debate continues on TalkingPoints around Michael Carrick’s future, Quinton Fortune is backing the Manchester United boss to get back on track. He believes the break has been a help to United rather than a hinderance.
Fortune said: “They did so well last season, so you expect them to kick on now. I really like Michael Carrick; I think he’s a great manager and a great guy. This international break has probably come at the perfect time for them to reset.
“It’s perfect timing because now they can get players back. Hopefully Baleba, Amad, and Sesko will be fully fit so they can kick on from here.”
