New twist in Joao Felix's future amid Manchester United reports

Joao Felix is one of the top names linked with a move to Manchester United ahead of the January transfer window.

The Portuguese international is being offered around by his agent Jorge Mendes, The Times reports, with Atletico making him available for loan, at a cost.

United are currently unwilling to meet Atletico’s demands, an £8 million loan fee plus a similar figure in wages.

No other club have yet been tempted, so for now, Joao Felix has returned to Atletico for the resumption of their season.

Now manager Diego Simeone is suggesting Felix could stay, making clear the door is open for Joao Felix to stay, if he wishes.

Simeone not convinced Joao Felix will leave

Diego Simeone is not Joao Felix will leave Atletico Madrid, challenging the Portugal international to raise his game if he stays.

He was quoted by A Bola: “If he shows what we saw from him at the World Cup, he will be very important. He has conditions and talent and the team needs his qualities.

“There is no confirmation that he will leave. I live day to day and try to resolve situations that concern me. I’m going to choose the team that I think has the most conditions to win the game and that’s it, the most important thing is to win.”

Simeone was speaking ahead of Atletico’s game tonight at home to Elche (8.30pm kick-off), so it will be interesting to see what level of involvement the forward has.

Journalist David Ornstein told NBC Sports last night that Joao Felix was the one name he had reliably and most consistently seen connected with Manchester United.

However, Atletico may have to drop their financial demands for a move to happen. This is less likely to occur if Simeone is keen to reintegrate him into La Liga side’s squad.
